Next year I am a senior and I wanted to take AP Chem. However, not enough students signed up for the class to make...so now I have to decision to take AP Psychology, Honors Anatomy, or Honors Chem II.

Which class do you think would be the most beneficial if I wanted to go into premed. (Probably radiology or anesthesiology)

I would talk to my counselors, but I don't really trust them...haha

My mother said AP Psych is the best class to take because for some reason people in the medical field think it is beneficial? Is this true?

Your high school classes won’t have that much effect on medical school applications. Either of Anatomy or ChemII would give you perhaps a little more preparation in pre-med track classes in college, but I doubt it would be a significant advantage.

Take what you like and what you do well in. Classes you take in high school have no affect on medical school. I graduated from college with a double major in special ed and English, then went to med school. My med school class included music majors, French majors, a high school band director and the requisite science majors. We all graduated from med school and found residencies in areas we requested.

Depends on the reputations of the classes at your school. For instance, the one poster said earlier that anatomy was a joke at his school. Personally at my school, it is a very rigorous class that hardly anyone gets an A in. It only counts as an honors class, but it is far and away the hardest class I’ve ever taken, significantly harder than most of my AP’s. You know it’s a hard class when the teacher says “You’re doing a good job if you get a 50% in the class,” lol. He’s completely serious when he says that. I hate it because there’s so much studying and memorization, but I think it’s beginning to teach me the lesson that studying must be done in advance rather than the night before, which is how it will be in college. So all in all, taking anatomy, as painful as it has been, has been a valuable experience for me.

Take chem you’ll probably have to take gen chem next fall and at a lot of schools it is a real killer. I wish I took chem instead of bio, I’m going to be really behind since indont remember any of it
