Which of these degrees will pay more?

B.A in Economics from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities (Minneapolis)

or

B.A in Accounting from the University of South Florida (Tampa)

Which one is more useful & pays more in terms of lucrative stability, salary etc

Thanks!

I do enjoy both Economics & Accounting
I DO EQUALLY. I just am narrowing it down to the Pros and Cons!!

the UofM is going to make me more in debt than USF.

Go to UT - Knoxville and double major!

Seriously, why the two extremes in location?

Family stays in both locations.

Found these links. The first shows pay. The second shows pay and unemployment. As I read it, econ pays more, but acct has lower unemployment.

I didn’t know this, but US News ranks UM-TC #10 for graduate econ so I would be pretty sure the undergrad program would be similarly rated. I am sure USF’s accounting program is rated much lower.

One other thing I would consider is how much I like math. Econ requires more math especially if you go to grad school. Accounting is process-oriented and the most math you use is arithmetic.

I like that you are considering the pros and cons. Keep at it. My sons is looking at a number of directions for college and we just keep gathering info. One thing that would be cool about the econ major is that you would be able to find a second major or perhaps even a couple minors. Econ and math go together nicely.

Thanks. The thing is…I’m applying to USF from UMN.
I transferred from a CC in my hometown(Orlando, FL) to MN.

The curriculum is MUCH harder here at UMN for both Economics&Accounting in comparison to USF.

USF
Pros: I have a medical condition, my doctor & medication etc is already established there in Florida. The Curriculum is SOOO much easier/looks more manageable in comparison to the curriculum here at UMN for the required courses in the major. Save a lot more $$$$ money since I’ll be considered In State.

Cons: The only Cons I’m worried about is the gossiping that will happen between my family and friends. Sounds silly? I know. I’m the first 1 to go to college in my family, so all of my family friends know about this and everyone is expecting so much from me. My parents are foreigners, so academics and stuff is taken seriously…sort of like the Asian household
I know I’m stupid for letting it get to me, but it really does bother me. I feel like I’m going to be looked down upon? Am I wrong for this?
They all see me to be happy whenever I tell them I’m going to MN. Even before I started here in JAN. we had a big going away party in which everyone was pretty much invited lol. So, coming back would probably give people some reason to talk. I’m not sure if my parent’s will be happy about my decision too come back in state.

UofM

Pros: THE LOCATION!! I love it here in the Twin Cities! I feel more at home…especially since there’s a LARGE East African community! Back in Florida I’m like the only East African there, lol.

Cons:$$$$$ will be a a lot more hefty. I kinda don’t want to be in serious debt when I graduate. :frowning:
I’ll struggle with academics A LOT more since the curriculum is MUCH more challenging. Not really interested in the programs they have here. Even if they do offer it, it’s a lot more challenging/tough to get into.

I can always come back for my masters here to UofM, right?
So, what do y’all think?
Thanks!!

oh. wanna add that I love the UofM atmosphere/school. Vibrant community here in the Twin Cities. It’s nice.

And I like the state of Minnesota so much more than the state of Florida. But I guess it’s because I lived in Florida my whole life. lolz.

Help…please.

Mikey, life is not easy. If you take the easy way out now, you set a pattern in your life. I’ve taken the easy way out a couple times and it set me back quite a bit. Obviously, the people at Minnesota thought you could do the work otherwise they wouldn’t have accepted you. Your parents may or may not be happy if you decided to come back to the state. But if you were to tell them MN is too hard, they will be disappointed in you and rightly so.
