Unfortunately, my school's website has NO pictures whatsoever of any of residence hall interiors. Thus, you/I can only choose based upon descriptions

I have three options my freshman year:

Hall A: 3 story hall (single-sex floors) with 4 wings
~Lounge
~Each room consists of a two room suite that has a private bathroom.
~$1710/yr

Hall B: 2 story hall (single-sex floors)
~Lounge/Study Hall
~2 students/room, communal bath
~$1540/yr

Hall C: 3 story hall (coed floors)
~Lounge
~Private rooms only; communal bath

$1910/yr

which would you choose?

Personally, not to get all stereotypical or anything, but I'd think that hall A would have all of the unsocial kids who are afraid that someone is gonna see their willies in the communal bathrooms and that Hall C would have all of the paranoid kids who either: are scared to have a roomate, don't trust people, can't have roomates (those deemed to be unfit--yes, it happens), and are unsocial.

--yeah, I know, that probably sounded really judgemental, but oh well...--

I’d pick Hall A. I don’t think that your judgement about the people in them is correct. I think that a lot of colleges have their dorms set up like that. It doesn’t mean that you are afraid that someone will see your willy.

If I could avoid a communal bath, I would. It’s not because I’m afraid of someone seeing me naked or anything, I just like have a real bathroom without stalls RIGHT THERE.

You might want to look at a map and see which one is closer to your classes or whatever you want to be close to. Why don’t you go on a tour or ask current students about the dorms?

The school is in the middle of nowhere, isn’t ranked, has only one online rating/review (in which the person said that all of the unsocial kids live in hall A, and, unless you’re really outgoing and can make friends yourself [rather than dorm activities and such] you’re better off living in a different hall). I cannot afford to go to the school, and the online tour only shows the exteriors of the building. :(

I’d pick Hall B, too. Even if your dorm’s not quite as nice, to me (especially as a freshman)the social aspect is the most important and that one seems the best in that respect. I definitely wouldn’t choose to live in a single my first year!

Hall B sounds like a typical freshman setup and possibly the most social as a new student. At my S’s school the communal baths are cleaned by the school and the baths ensuite are cleaned by the students (hence never cleaned) so it’s nice to have a clean bathroom!

Lily: I was thinking about that, too. I mean, wearing flip flops to the communal bath is one thing, but in your own shower it’s totally different…

And, I/we won’t have to invest in cleaning supplies (for broke folks it adds up) or argue over who made what mess or who has “cleaning duty” this time around…

Hall A has the same setup my freshman dorm did. I didn’t socialize with most of the people on my floor, but then again, my whole suite was kind of isolated. We also had a bad RA whom we saw only a handful of times the whole year. But I’d say my suite was in the minority. Obviously, my suitemates and I found other friends who didn’t necessarily live in the same residence hall.

I’d still pick Hall A, though.

Edit: I should also note that my residence hall with the Hall A setup had the campus reputation of being the “party dorm.”

suite style vs. hallway style is really the issue here, and hallway would probably be more social if you keep your doors open. also, it’s cheaper and not “private,” which to me would mean that the people wouldn’t be snobs.

I’d go with Hall A. It’s more social than having single rooms, yet you still have a private bathroom (less people sharing, easier in terms of changing, possibly nicer bathroom facilities/fixtures, more privacy, etc.). By the way, I’m a girl.

I’d go with A, since I really have no desire to share a bathroom with 100 other girls (nothing to do with being naked, but more along the lines of sanitation).

The suite-style bathrooms at the school I’m going to go to next year are actually cleaned by staff (here’s to hoping I got a modern dorm! only 3 days 'til housing assignments are online…)
