Which of these schools are most generous

Hello,
I have compiled a list of schools I believe that I will apply to and I wanted to know which of them are the most generous in merit scholarships. My stats are 3.902 Weighted GPA at one of the top private schools in Illinois and a projected ACT of 29. I want to major in biology. Don't be afraid to knock schools or add them onto the list; any help is appreciated.
University of Minnesota
University of Wisconsin-Madison
University of Alabama
University of South Carolina
Cal Poly
UConn
Butler University
Oregon State University
University of Washington-Seattle
Temple University

I see to many state schools, and from what I know, state schools don't tend to feel the need to give any awards to out of state applicants, because the purpose of the state school is to give its state residents a place to attend college, and rewarding those state residents who have achieved merit.

You'd have better luck at receiving either merit or need-based scholarship if the school is private.

Private schools are fine as long as they have no religious affiliation. Go to a catholic school now, and I'm not doing that again.

USCC gives away alot normally

U of Wisconsin is very stingy with OOS merit awards. If I remember correctly the top award listed for OOS is $400. University of Minnesota is much more generous with scholarships and their OOS tuition is only $4000 more than instate tuition, so it is a much better value even before any scholarship. Look at each website for details on the scholarships available.

I have no experience with the other schools listed.

University of Washington is not so generous to out of staters. I believe tuition is $16000 more per year than for in staters.

If you are looking for merit aid, why the big list of state schools? Add some privates that are known to give merit aid. Many will give you $10,000 per year if you are at the top of their pool. You can get a good bio education at many LAC's, even a superior education and many have a very high rate of acceptance into grad school and med school.

I don't believe you would get anything from Cal Poly, it being a state school that gives priority in admissions and aid to state residents. Beautiful area, though.

Also, Catholic Colleges are run completely different than HS. In general Jesuit colleges are fantastic at wholistic education. I know a girl that was given full ride to USD, a stunningingly beautiful and well regarded school and she did not have your GPA, but she did have a very strong HS. I wouldn't overlook these types of schools, but you might do better at an LAC known for Bio.

thanks for all the responses

Maybe Beloit? U of I is cheap.
