Which of these schools is the most transfer friendly?

I'm currently a freshman at Rutgers University. I have compiled a bit of a list of schools I am interested in transferring to for Fall 2015. I was wondering which are the most transfer friendly and with my stats I have a good chance? Also how is the financial aid at these? Also I am a NJ resident and am willing to consider commuting to the schools on my list in NYC in order to save money.

STATS:
HS
GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1950 (620 math, 660 reading, 670 writing)
Two Three Year Varsity Sports
Officer of Youth Group
200+ hours community service
Intern with physical therapist
NHS/Language society
Had one or two jobs all four years

College
GPA: Unknown as of now
Courses: Gen Chem, Expository writing, Women Culture & Society, Urban Planning, Calculus 1
ECs: Ultimate frisbee, have plans for an alternative break for spring, multicultural groups, theater

Colleges Considering: Bard, Barnard, Bates, Bucknell, Colgate, Dartmouth(big reach), Dickinson, The New School, Fordham, Franklin and Marshall, Hampshire, NYU, Skidmore, Smith, Tufts

Why do you want to leave Rutgers? I am also a freshman at Rutgers, and I too was to transfer

want*

it’s just too big for me ( i hate the bus system) and all there is to do on fridays and saturday nights is go to frat parties. I also feel like it lacks an intellectual environment.

Can you afford $45K/year that NYU would cost living at home?

If you don’t like fraternities, why are Bucknell and Dartmouth on your list?

If large size and non-contiguous campus is an issue, why is NYU on your list?

Oh, I see. I can agree with her also. I feel like the intellectual environment at Rutgers isn’t the best. It’s just a large school with Jersey kids.

If Rutgers is too big why is NYU on the list?

How much does it cost to go to Rutgers? how much more would it cost to go to these other schools? Franklin and Marshall doesn’t do merit scholarships…How much is your Expected Family Contribution?

Have you looked at all the activities available? http://getinvolved.rutgers.edu/programs-and-events/events-calendar</a>
Have you met kids in the honor programs?

I never said I don’t like fraternities. I just don’t want it to be the only thing to do on the weekends. NYU is a commutable distance from my house and my cousin is a teacher there. I’m very familiar with NYU’s surrounding area and have friends that live at NYU and nearby. I am active in rutgers activities i just don’t like being involved in clubs that 200 other people in and meetings involve packing people into a room.

Also my familiy income is about 100k

My familiy is currently contributing about 26k for me to attend RU

But the question you’ll need to discuss with them is are they willing to pay NYU’s costs which are >$45K for tuition and nominal expenses (no room and board).

At Bucknell and Dartmouth, a majority of eligible students join fraternities and sororities. So if you want social stuff to do other than fraternity and sorority parties and activities, those schools may be an even worse fit for you than Rutgers.

Just be careful in the process - In general it is hard to get aid as a transfer student so just be sure that you are not only accepted but have a financial package that will work at another school before you pull the plug at Rutgers.

there are about 12 other schools on my list of considerations. NYU is not the only school there and it is just something I am considering. thank you ucbalumnus I will take bucknell and dartmouth out then, but there are 12 other schools there that I am interested in learning more about. This is not a forum of whether my family can afford to send me to nyu. It was a 1/14, just up in the air.

I used NYU as an example (because it is the most egregious). You need to discuss how much your parents can pay and then compare it to the COAs at the schools.

Yes this is true and the cost is an issue. I was hoping to use this forum to also get a better idea of how these schools treat their transfer students, like advisors/counselors, programs etc. Also which schools would appear to be targets/reaches with my stats.

Look into transferring into TCNJ as it may be closer to the atmosphere you want, for a similar cost as Rutgers, and is a safety. Apply soon and be done with it, so that you can focus on your actual big choices.
What grades are you getting in your classes so far? Keep the % in mind when calculating (ie., lab vs. midterm, etc). Since your college grades are a big unknown, I’ll assume you’re doing similarly well in college as in HS in terms of GPA, but actual grades would be helpful.
Transfers typically get lousy aid compared to freshmen, except at in-state public universities that use a similar formula.
Bard, Barnard, Bates = reaches (but possible) - very different vibes
Bucknell, Colgate, Dartmouth(big reach)= if you don’t want frat parties to be THE main thing to do, avoid these
Dickinson= good match
The New School= lousy financial aid
Fordham= academic match but very iffy for FA
Franklin and Marshall = academic match, not sure for FA
Hampshire = good odds
NYU= expect no financial aid, academic low reach if you don’t apply for aid and commute (but 45k!)
Skidmore, Smith, Tufts = reaches
If you want a more intellectual atmosphere, look into: Wooster, Clark, Vassar (reach), Sarah Lawrence (but lousy FA), Earlham, Geneseo, Bryn Mawr (reach).
Your 1st semester grades will be key so make sure to get the highest possible grades. Giving us an indication of how you’re doing right now would help us be more precise.

Right now I have an A in calculus and women studies, a B in chemistry and expository writing. I’m looking to get my B’s up to at least B+'s. No chem labs; exams are 75%, hw/quizzes are the rest. Writing class is only based on 5 papers, highest grade out of the five is your grade and i have only written two papers. Rutgers does not do - grades and A+ is not possible. Thank you for your advice!
