After applying to several schools, a few friends and I have come to the realization that our guidance counselor is not informed as to the current state of things. In regards to Midyear reports, I have a few questions that I pose to the CC board.

1)A midyear report consists of what exactly? (I understand that common app has a form, very similar to the secondary school report, does the counselor have to prepare anything else besides inputting the grades-such as a midyear letter?)

2) Some midyear reports ask for an updated transcript, is this required for all? Can a report card be submitted in lieu of the updated transcript? (My school cannot print transcripts, they must send in a request-takes around 2 weeks)

3) Of the following schools, which require Midyear Reports
(I've researched them all, and have a pretty clear understanding of which do, and don't, but the websites are rather ambiguous and many times lack clarity)

-Brown
-Upenn
-Cornell University
-Tufts
-Bowdoin
-Vassar
-NYU
-George Washington University
-American University
-University of Vermont

It’s “standard procedure” to get a mid-year report from HSs. In fact, sometimes, applicants are deferred because the college wants to see how that student does in his/her senior year. A mid-year report is generally a transcript, consisting of grades from the first and second semester, plus general comments updates from the GS. All HSs are geared to provide this document, and it is not usually something students need to request separately.

The school I go to only sends about 7% of students to a 4 year university, and about 21% to a 2 year college. When it comes to being geared for transcripts and such, my school is behind. To receive a transcript we must contact the regions office and have them print it for us.

All schools need a midyear report!
It’s basically your grades for the second trimester (or whatever system your school uses). To make sure you have’t completely slacked after handing in applications.

Yup. Most commonapp schools expect them. And for my school, you do have to request them. All non-common app schools might want some kind of midyear report too, so be sure to check their respective websites to double check.
