which of these schools sound right for my daughter?

will be retaking SAT I in OCT. expect to earn a 1300-1400 range

SAT 2 US HISTORY 780 and LIT in the fall expect a750+

GPA is an A avg. w/ Aps(5) and honors classes

!00+ hrs community work but nothing significant

Passion: Art, Photography and Writing w/in a Liberal Arts context. Trying to find a beautiful traditional campus in an urban setting if possible.

We want to visit Boston area. Which of these schools are best fit for her?
We only have 2 days to see schools and 2 travel days. Can't see them all.

Which are worth seeing and what category would you say they are for her stats and interests...Reach or match?

Tufts ( Medford )
Boston College (Chestnut Hill)
StoneHill College (Easton)
Emerson
Boston University
Northeastern University
Wellesley (I know this is a reach but just curious I guess since we will see Barnard in NYC as well this summer)

1300-1400?

that's a bit low? are you sure you're using the NEW SAT scale. i don't expect someone with 700+ SAT IIs to have an SAT I score. the new SAT is out of 2400

Matches/Safeties: Northeastern, BU, Emerson, Stonehill
Reaches: Tufts, BC, Wellesley

Brandeis would be another Boston-area match/safety.

1300-1400 on the old probably

Sorry...Iwas not counting the writing section because we are told schools are not factoring them in.

With writing score figure a 2000-2100+

I would call Brandeis more of a match/reach than a match/safety.

Last night I looked at all the websites for the colleges suggested.

These are my impressions. Tell me if I am close or way off.

I am very interested in Tufts because of the connection w/ SMFA, and because of Tuft's reputation. I like the fact that she would earn a degree from Tuft's. I saw on SMFA's site that they are affiliated w/ Emerson as well and other schools too.
MFA looks like a wonderful place but it is not clear whether she would live there or at Tuft's. I think she'd live @ SMFA, and commute to Tufts.
However I think she would prefer to go to one school that would allow her to explore her art and get a LA education in one place. Another downside is that she would earn a BFA. But she is not really sure of what she wants to major in yet and does not want to lock herself into a specific program upon entering. SMFA focuses more on painting, visual arts and not much on Photography.
I am finding it difficult to find a LAC that also offers a good "minor" if you will in Photography( at one school the guide had to ask if they offer it, she "thinks" they may have a photography club though.)

ICP( International Center for Photography Program) in NYC sounds good though which has similar joint degrees offered ot some NYC schools.

Bottomline is Tufts is a good school and supplemented w/ SMFA sounds like an option to look at.

Boston College sounds great to me but I keep having clean cut images of football rah rah type atmosphere. She has to see if that is her thing or not. I suspect it is not.

Boston University sounds like a good fit since it is in the vein of the city and more reasonable for her to get into. But keep thinking it feels second best to the others. And I think she wanted a smaller setting.

Northeastern is sounding like a second to yet smaller than Boston University.

Emerson sounds like a real pre-professional school very radical too.

Brandeis, now Brandeis I like. Not in the city ( they have a shuttle that brings you to MIT and other ares of Boston Thurs-Sun.) but they seem to value art and have the Rose Art Museum that looks interesting.
When I read that most everyone is Jewish I thought she may not fit in since she is not but the sound of the programs are intriquing and I just got a good feel from my reading.

I may be letting myself be manipulated by advertising though who knows.
The CC site about Brandies had some complaints about the campus being ugly particularly the dorms. Not good.

I guess my qusetion is I know NYC ....I have NYU and Barnard in mind will any of these places be similar? I know it is New England, different feel but can they be compared in some ways?

Brandeis is approximately 55% Jewish, but alot of that are also not observant, and there is something for everyone on campus.
Barnard has a gorgeous campus, its quite small with a nurturing feeling, with the flipside of living in a huge, great, city. I have heard some complaints about the quality of the dorms, but the one I saw seemed fine. With dorms its sometimes just a crapshoot.
NYU is also a great school, I get the feeling they are very dedicated to more 'arty' things, it doesn't really have a very campusy feel, but its right in the heart of Greenwich Village which can be great - it all depends on what you're looking for.

Also take a look at Wheaton in Mass.
