Which of these schools would offer the best pre med opportunities?

Hi I’ve posted here a couple of times, but my scores have changed a little and I’m coming into my senior year. My ACT is a 33 and my weighted/unweighted GPA is 4.5/3.88. I live in Madison, Alabama and have been considering Georgia Tech, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Duke,Auburn, Georgia, and University of Florida. So my question is, what school would provide the most opportunities/financial support for a pre med with my scores? Money is not a huge issue but it’s hard to pass up full tuition at auburn. However, I feel like it wouldnt have the opportunities some of the others do since it’s not affiliated with a medical school and there aren’t many hospitals in the area to intern or get experience at. How would you rank these schools in respect to pre med opportunities?

Georgia Tech is known for grade deflation, so it is definitely not a good pre-med school. Georgia’s medical school is in transition, and there is some friction in the system, so UGA may or may not not be the best choice.

Auburn recently opened an on-campus med school, although it is an OM.

The others should be solid choices with on-campus MD schools. Duke will give you more hand holding and more opportunities due to its size, but it will also be the most competitive.

You’re an out of state student for those other public Us. UNC is one of two public Us that will meet need for OOS students. None of the others will. Why aren’t you considering Alabama in addition to Auburn? They have great aid for strong students.

Automatic tuition aid, bringing out of pocket cost to 15k (loans included, if you’d need them), plus as an in state student you could get need based if that’s too high.

@ErinsDad For petty reasons. It’s very close to home and I’m hoping to get away and experience something new for school, it has a heavy tradition of partying and drug use, and I don’t know if I could say roll tide without choking or being disowned (raised a tiger and both parents are auburn grads)

That is a darn good reason. Auburn will be the cheapest, and with your stats they will sweeten it some more. UF will be pretty expensive OOS unless you qualify for one of a handful of OOS merit awards. With your stats, you will be in the running. UNC has similar chances for OOS merit aid, and Duke can offer need based aid.

You might consider USF and UCF. With your stats, they will definitely give you merit aid and you have a chance for acceptance to their combined BS/MD programs.

I understand the Bama/Auburn schism. I lived in Montgomery and my roommate was always asked “so, are you for Auburn or Bama”. But that’s really not a good reason to prevent you looking at an affordable school. What do you intend to major in? Premed is not a major but a series of required classes. You can major in anything.

Yes I am aware that pre med is not a major. I am currently leaning towards biomedical engineering, but Other possibilities are chemical engineering or psychology. It’s not just the Auburn Alabama animosity it’s a desire for change and a feeling that Bama’s scene just isn’t for me.
