Out of Colby, Bates, and Hamilton, which school has the strongest International Relations Program? I am looking at schools like Brown, Tufts, and University of St Andrews (Scotland) that are well known for their IR divisions. However, I also need to be looking at some less selective schools. Out of Colby, Bates, and Hamilton, which has the best IR program? If anyone has any other suggestions of schools with great IR programs that aren't super selective, please post them here!!!

Looks like we’re in the same boat! From what I’ve heard, of the three, Colby has the best IR program. Tufts and St. Andrews (which I got into yesterday
) are spectacular schools for IR as I’m sure you know. I haven’t heard much about Brown’s program, however.

As for suggestions, Georgetown and AU are both known for their IR.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do!

Does anyone know if The University of Richmond has a strong IR program? It talks about International Studies as a major, but is this the same as IR and is it a reputable program?

Also, congrats Khalilzhad on St Andrews! You probably know this already, but it’s the top IR program in all of Europe and the English speaking world, and it’s the most competitive school to get into at St Andrews. I’m going to be sending in my application very soon and I’ll be devastated if I don’t get in.

I’m applying to the William and Mary-St. Andrew’s joint degree program for IR, so maybe we’ll cross paths at some point. I would add to those listed here Johns Hopkins and George Washington U. Also, some schools are good for specific regions if you have that kind of focus. For example, Duke has a good Middle Eastern Studies department.

Thanks! I know about JH and GW, and I actually am really interested in Middle Eastern Studies…I listed it as my second concentration on my St Andrews app. Unfortunately I am not inclined to apply to Duke because I already have enough reach schools…I need schools that are of similar caliber to GW with great IR programs.

American University is top 10 International Relations in the USA. Its in Washington DC, and somewhat less competitive than George Washington, yet still a very good school.
