<p>Do you play an instrument? Do you play a sport? Do you collect something no one else does?</p>
<p>Are you nice, or are you mean? Are you involved in community service, or do you spray pepper spray at a hobo just for fun because he panhandles you?</p>
<p>They like to know what KIND of person you are (without necessarily comparing you with others' numbers/statistics). Because after a certain point, it's proven through transcripts and SAT scores whether or not you can do the work. The other question they press is "what else (other than academic work) can you contribute to the university?"</p>
