I live in IL and will transfer for fall 2006.(i am currently enrolled in cc)
Now, my two choice is UIUC and Wisconsin-Madison, if I don't get into other schools I applied. It seems I have most chances to those two schools!
I am majoring in Econ. Then, I will go for law school after I graduate.
However, which of those two schools have better reputation in Social science, especially in Econ.
Also, which one is better known internationally?

I think Wisconsin has a slightly better reputation in econ. Minnesota is also excellent, if you prefer the public ivies. Michigan also.

The authors of my econ textbook went to Wisconsin (or are profs there... can't remember which), so they must have a decent department.

I'm not really sure why you limited your choices to UIUC or Wisconsin for econ. If you're looking for a school in the midwest with a strong econ department, you would have been better off applying to Chicago, Michigan, and Northwestern. Either way, UIUC is very weak in the social sciences compared to their other departments, and I'd recommend Wisconsin over UIUC in everything except engineering and business.

then, what do you think are the better options?
I go to cc, and getting 3.3. I don't care which region, but definately want good Econ Programs. What are the best choice with my gpa for transfer.

I really have no idea where that will get you. Michigan, NU, and Chicago rarely except someone with below a 3.6 in HS, so I'm at a loss. Your chances are probably better at state schools though.

The rankings I have give the following for undergrad econ programs:
1. Chicago
9. Northwestern
10. Minnesota
11. UCLA
13. Michigan
15. Wisconsin
28. UIUC

These are probably the "good" econ programs that you have the best shot at (the others are ivies and more selective private schools). If you just want to transfer to a better school in state and cant get into any of these, try UIC.

My sister goes to UIC for pre pharmacy, and I don't dig there for social sciences. I mean, it's 2nd tier school... nothing compared to UIUC for business.

chibearsfan17, no Cal?

Berekeley is up there, it just didn't seem to fit the profile for this applicant because OOS admissions there is very difficult. Berkeley is number 3 according to USNWR, according to Alexandre on another thread.
