Which one for BME?

Which one do you think I should go to for BME;

Boston U, Case Western, Purdue U or U of Rochester?

Give reason why as well plz! :D

Thx!

Bumping...plz guys!

Purdue's engineering programs are top ranked.

Rochester. highest ranked bme.

not considering hopkins or duke for BME?

ziggy, im assuming these are the colleges he/she made and has decided upon a BME major.

yea j567p is right...these r the colleges i got accepted to...personally i am torn between Purdue and Boston U. Purdue has great engineering...true...and I love the campus...and being an international student I like the size of the international student body...but getting into the BME program is only contingent on me getting a high enough GPA in my freshman year. On top of this BME at Purdue does not feature on the USNews rankings as yet because the program is only a couple of years old...the program is not ABET accredited but they are opening a multi-million dollar BME building :D. Boston U on the other hand is 8th on the USNews rankings and is ABET accredited but I am guessing it does not have the same prestige as Purdue? If Purdue will get accredited soon and I can get some assurance that I can get into the BME program then I might very strongly consider attending there. Dont know about Case and Rochester though? Any more thoughts/advice anyone?? :D

Case for sure. In the BME field, Case is better reputation than BU.

hm according to USNews yes case is better...but isnt Purdue better for engineering...and doesn't Boston have some of the best (if not the best) hospitals and biotech companies in the US?

anyone else have anything to add?

Purdue maybe better for other eng. But BME is special, you have to know biology/med. Look at JHU, their eng. is not better than many schools(except BME), but their BME is the best. Yes, Boston(where I am living) has best hospitals, but it belongs to Harvard. Harvard/MIT has a very good joint PhD program. Biotech and BME are different things. Oh, yes, we have Boston Scientific here. It focus on medical device, which I don't think it's BU's strength.

Is case's bme program still higher in USnews than BU's?

Personally I'd suggest BU or Case. But I'd suggest looking at opportunities for undergrads to do research in bme specifically. For example, at BU seniors work on a year-long research project in one of the labs. The experience is incredibly important, but it's also very lab/research-based, because many of the labs work at the cellular/molecular level (but definitely not all). At case things seem to be more focused on design.

I'd take a look at the areas of BME each school focuses on... most schools have one or two strong areas, but it's nice to have some variety, because the research conducted there will dictate the types of courses offered and any research opportunities there might be for undergrads.

I don't know much about Purdue's program, but I went to a school with a fairly new/growing BME program (washu in stl), and I think I got a great education. It was important to make sure that there were a variety of advanced BME courses offered, specifically in our department, and that there were research opportunities for undergrads. Sometimes these are easier to find in a new/growing program, sometimes it's harder... so maybe someone who knows Purdue better can help you answer that :)

wow thx a lot laurezer! That was really helpful!

case is like 3rd or 4th or something for BME. It's really really good. You can't go wrong

Case is consistently ranked in the top 4 for BME; none of the others you listed are. As for medical research opportunities and working in hospitals, Case and UR are best among your choices. Case & UR would offer more personal attention. I wouldn't enroll in a program that is not accredited.

The Cleveland Clinic is among the top 4 hospitals in the country (w/ Mass General, Mayo Clinic, and Hopkins). University Hospitals is also right on Case's campus.

I would definitely say Case. I applied there, so my dad and I did TONS of research, and Case is up there with hopkins and the rest for BME. Out of your list, I would definitely say it is the best.

purdue, highest ranking in engineering

lol sorry for my fopaux above. I am also interested in BME and I would definitely go with Case. Their reputation, in addition to their resources for BME, are excellent. I have a few friends that are/were enrolled in the engineering program and they all agree that, while they were not BME majors, the BME department at Case was certainly one of the best in the region. Whatever you decide, make sure you share with us and explain how you came to the conclusion!
