I am choosing between Carleton, georgetown or virginia. I am going premed. Do you guys know their med school acceptance rates, research and shadowing opportunities, average undergrad GPAs and MCAT scores please? Thanks.
You’re not really “choosing” yet :-)… Apply to all three and keep your fingers crossed you’ll get in!
Now, more generally: there’s no such thing as a premed program. Premed is an intention. It means you’ll take intro to major classes in a variety of subjects and will have to rank top 10-20% in each one of them. These classes aren’t medical, they’re just basic foundational classes for various majors. Specifically, you’ll take 2 semesters each of biology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, English (writing/communication), and one semester each of calculus, statistics/biostatistics, sociology, psychology, a diversity-focused class, biochemistry, perhaps neuroscience.
You have to handle all this while completing any major of your choice (while many students major in biology or biochemistry, Math, Foreign Language, English, philosophy major s do really well in the admission process.)
What matters is whether the college weeds and how deliberately, how collaborative the students are, what resources and support there is.
