I am going to transfer to a four yr college in coming Fall and still wondering which one is more suitable for me.

I know it's a bit late to talk about where to go. However, I really struggle a lot with my final decision. I am accepted by UT at Austin and UWashington, Seattle. I like UT so much. For UW, I don't feel good with it but not that bad.

In UT, I am admitted to their Business school with unspecificed major. I have to take Calculus II in UT before I can declare my major (Accounting). I wonder would there be a chance that I cannot declare my major in UT? Since there may be many students wanna major accounting, if more than they can accept, will they force unsuccessful students to major in other fields, like Marketing?? Would I still have a chance to major in Accounting? Also, I don't know whether my courses in cc are transferrable to UT or not since I am an out-state transfer student. I wonder if they would transfer my Accounting classes as they didn't evaluate them so far. I really wanna go to UT but would it be too risky for me to go there, like require more time to graduate?

For UW, I have a better deal since they accepted me to their Business honor program (too late to apply for BHP in UT since I have taken financial and managerial accounting). Also, I am admitted to their accounting deapartment (transfer junior)which means there is no doubt I would graduate with an accounting major (unless i change my major). However, business program in UW is not as famous as that in UT (at least, UT is more famous). Also, it is hard to be admitted to UT as an out-state transfer student (non-resident). You know around 10 out-state students are being admitted each year. Hence, I don't want to give up such a good offer.

So, guys, please tell me which one is a better deal for me, UT or UW? (btw, i transfer from a cc in Washington state, so all my credits should be transferrable to UW.)

I would just go to UT. And I dont think you'll have a problem getting to be an accounting major, I dont think they place a limit on them. Plus, you might still be able to apply to the PPA program which is really awesome. I think with business you're gonna want a better name and UT would be it.

I would call the business dept. at UT and ask these critical questions. It is too important not to get the correct answers. This is your career. If you may end up not being able to major in acct. I would go with the sure thing at UW! Honestly, from what I understand for accounting, it does not matter where you go as long as the school has AACSB accreditation, and half of the business schools out there have it. Also you want to make sure that you have peers that are bright in your classes, so that you are challenged, which will be the case at both of these schools. Lastly, you may want to look at the first time pass rates for the cpa exam at both schools, if you are planning to sit for this exam.

Thanks guys. Thanks for your quick response!!!

So is it important to go to the honor program since i can join the honor program in UW but it is too late for me to join the program in UT. Would there be a significant difference for students who graduates from an honor program to a student who didn't?

Also, how can I know the first time pass rates for the cpa exam for both schools? Since i can't find the exact rate on their web site. For UW, they just say above average of theit students can pass the exam. For UT, it didn't say. So is there any web site I can have the statistics of students passing the CPA exam of each school? (from US news, UT's acct ranks No.1 and UW ranks 17)

Also, i have called the advisor in UT and he is kind of picky. He said I can get the answers once I register for classes and pay the tutition. Well, that's picky, rite? I just wanna ask some specific questions about transfer and credit evaluation.

So please give me further suggestions!!! Thanks!

The first time pass rate for the cpa exam, as I understand it, is actually a number that the school has to pay for. I do not believe that it is handed out to universities freely. I also have been told that not all schools are willing to purchase this information, and do not have it. Pretty unbelievable! You are asking some good and crucial questions and I think you deserve the answers to them BEFORE you plunk down your money. This is a big decision, and I do not think that you should feel intimidated by anyone. I think you deserve the answers so that you can make an educated choice. I think you may need to speak to the head of the business departments to see if they have the first time pass rate available.
