I have applied to several schools for animal science or pre-vet program:
- UC Davis: animal science
- Cal Poly San Luis Obispo: animal science
- Cal State Poly Pomona: animal science
- Michigan State University: pre-vet program
- Washington State University: pre-vet program/ neuroscience major
- University of Georgia: pre-vet program/ animal health major
- University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign: animal science

Out of all these schools, which one is better in terms of animal science and which one is better in terms of pre-vet program? I have heard that MSU is known for their pre-vet program but I don't know if its true. People also constantly compare Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to UC Davis and I was wondering which one is better in terms of major and preparation for vet school.

I have been accepted into majority of the school listed up there though now I'm starting to decide which school I should go to! I like to hear people's opinion since no one in my school is planning on going into vet school or becoming a veterinarian...

well, I hope others more knowledgeable about the schools & programs you’ve listed will post - I’m not familiar enough with any of them to have an informed opinion to share - but I do want to throw out there that you may not want to limit yourself to specifically pre-vet/animal science programs. My D was STRONGLY advised to instead choose a science major like biology (which she did) as it will serve as a good base for so many possible careers should you change your mind about attending vet school or not gain admission. This advice came from current Auburn vet school students when we toured last year, and to me it makes sense. A strong science background should be just as appealing to vet schools as a pre-vet track. Of course D will be applying for internships and getting as much hands on experience as possible as well. The only time I would not advise this is if you were to be accepted to one of the pre-vet programs tied to a vet school where your admission upon graduation is guaranteed …

Also, here is a site where you might find the inside scoop on the schools you are interested in. The vet/pre vet message boards at SDN are pretty active and you’ll find threads specific to most every vet school here and abroad -
