which one is easier ED? Columbia or Wharton

like the title. although both are extremely hard, which one would be easier ED.

Columbia is "easier" ED

ED shouldn't be a decision based on which is easier. It should only be used if you feel 98% sure that you want to attend that school. If there's any hesitancy, it'll probably show up because all the other ED applicants are saying "You're my No. 1 choice ALL THE WAY!"

That being said, neither is "easy" in any description of the word (unless you're a development admit e.g. your relative gave millions recently)

not really true, it could be a strategic decision to get admitted to one of the two, because you like both of them, rather than get rejected from both RD.

columbia will be easier.

Which one has a higher avg financial aid package for ED?

Columbia has better fin aid, but I don't know if that's true for ED.

Also: Columbia's admit rate dropped a lot this year, if you're applying ot the college, it's going ot be even more competitive next year than this past one.

You should only apply ED if you are nearly 100% sure you will be happy there. If you aren't, you're only 50% sure (like deciding between two schools you like equally well) than you shouldn't apply ED. This defeats the purpose. What if between the time you submit your app and the time you hear back, you've fallen in love with another school or decided the other school was actually the better choice? If you get into your ED school than you MUST attend. This isn't a decision to make lightly nor should it be looked at as a strategic movement.

I dont understand why columbia's admin rate is so low if no one knows about. When I tell people I want to go to columbia, they usually ask me what that is?

^That's just because of where you live. It's a great school.

I mean half the country confuses UPenn with PennState.

and the other half of the country just stares at you dumbfounded, completely not knowing what you're talking about.

^^^ Which is incredibly hilarious.

I think Wharton is pretty hard to get into, given its prestige. Columbia is probably easier.

yeah i concur. Columbia should be easier.

AznN3rd: the admit rate of the top tier schools has dropped because of the huge influx of more applicants in the last decade due to a combination of 1) more graduating HS seniors, 2) better knowledge about these schools, 3) widespread acceptance of the Common App, 4) pressure felt by achieving seniors that if they don't get into one of the "top ranked" schools, then life is meaningless (ok, exaggerating a bit here).

More apps + same number of openings = reduced accept rate.

And your completely wrong that people don't know about Columbia. While some people don't, it's obvious to the extra tens of thousands of kids who are seriously considering it now, whereas 15 years ago, would have been content to take the great scholarship at their flagship state school.

However, lets not forget that yes there has been a huge influx in apps but a large portion of those apps are kids who really dont stand a chance. With the aid of the common app, Kids only need to fill out what, one or two more essays and have to click a button to send an app as opposed to a few years ago where each app to every school had to be done individually and by hand.

I don't think Columbia takes the common app and Penn started last year. As for which is easier ED, I think it is a toss up. Looking solely at admit rates, I think Wharton is easier to get into.

Ehh....no one knows exactly what the Wharton admit rate is, but many have speculated it to be somewhere from 9-10%, which is similar to Columbia's 8.9%. I don't really think you can say one is harder than the other...they look for different things: at Wharton, you need to show strong math skills and business EC's, and at Columbia, you just need to stand out from a HUGE pack of applicants somehow.

^'just need to stand out'. Yeah, that'll be a breeze.

Columbia probably is easier overall.. unless you are a low-stat kid who really shows interest in business, then Wharton would be easier..

The two are so similar competition-wise, you should choose based on which one you prefer.
