Which one looks better? (A) or (B)

(A)
One time SAT I (2260)
cr 680
m 800
w 780

(B)
Three times SAT I
1st time (2260)
cr 680
m 800
w 780

2nd time (2160)
cr 680
m 770
w 710

3rd time-- (2210)
cr 730
m 760
w 720

Superscore (2310)
cr 730
m 800
w 780

First question, which one looks better to elite colleges like the ivies, stanford, and MIT? (A) or (B)

Finally, which one (A) or (B) looks better when compared to a first time 2310 scorer?

I'm just wondering if I should have sent all of my SAT scores to these top colleges that say they use superscoring. I don't believe their policies are so unbiased....

Hmm… I like Choice A a lot more. A LOT MORE!

I don’t think that any of those schools accept Score Choice, so all of your scores are sent there no matter what.

These colleges superscore according to their policy… yet choice A still looks better. I knew it! I might of screwed up again by sending in all three scores instead of just the first one!

they “superscore”, but they still see that you took it three times… and the scores for each time, and how they overall went down.

and class of 2013 doesnt have score choice… you couldnt have just sent one in.

So how badly would (B) hurt me if you consider that I have a 3.99 GPA, great ECs, course rigor, and good essays and recs but also in context w/ several people at my school who have 4.0s and 2300+ on their first sitting?

why are you comparing such minute differences. i honestly dont think a 20 point or even a 50 point difference is going to make that HUGE of a difference. focus on seperating urself from the rest of the applicatns through ECs

Well…

I’m not going to pick but I’ll give you my personal experiences on this issue.

My First take in November Junior year, I got a 2160. (750R, 750M, 660W- 9 essay)

My Second take in May Junior year, I got a 2260. (800R, 770M, 690W- 12 essay)

the problem was, I was not planning on retaking it, but I signed up for the October test first thing senior year. I was worried about my low writing score, and I was counting on the superscore.

My third take, I tanked it completely. Got a 2180, 80 point decrease. (710R, 730M, 740W- 12 essay)

but for Superscore, I got a 50 point increase to 2310. Yale saw all my scores, including the drop for the third one. I gave no explanation or excuse for the drop anywhere in my app. But I guess it really didn’t matter because I got in. I think they really mean that they’ll take the best scores per session.

So… that’s my input. Happy weekends.

(B) is better without a doubt. Universities that superscore only consider your superscore–not “how” you got there–with only a few exceptions. The first exception is if you take the test more than 3-4 times (which you haven’t), and the second is if there’s clear evidence that you only focused on one section each time (500-500-700, 700-500-500, 500-700-500). Barring these circumstances all that matters is your superscore, even if that superscore was achieved with a downward trend of individual scores, as yours was.

Think about it: if colleges wanted you to score well on each section each time you take the test they wouldn’t superscore. Superscoring exists because colleges don’t make the distinction between your scores and applicant who scored 2310 on his first and only attempt.

^Thanks. That was the response I was hoping for. However, my parents say that inevitably the adcoms (who will be seeing all scores) will be ‘subconsciously’ influenced by the downward trend in M and W. In the end, they’ll make a distinction between first time test takers and 3 time test takers. I know tokenadult said this is not the case, but… according to my parents, you can never be too sure.

Btw, does any former or current admissions officer or an insider person know how this process works?

giantsace55: I don’t know if this is a minute difference. Those students I described have gotten early letters from ivies and I haven’t yet. =(

They also have national merit finalist status and I only have national merit commended! Phoowey!!!
