Well, next year i plan on taking 6 AP classes:
AP English
AP Biology 2
AP Calculus BC
AP Gov't/Economics
AP Computer Science
AP Music Theory

I was wondering...Since i want to go into medicine, would it be better to take AP Chemistry 2 (2 periods long) instead of AP Comp Sci and Music Theory? I see the benefits of doing that, but i also see the benefits of that extra AP class.

Also, would it be weird, since i'm ranked at the top of my class, for my salutatorian to be a National Merit Scholar and have higher standardized test scores than me? I really don't do so hot on standardized tests, but i do get really good grades through hard work.

The credit you would get from taking AP music theory and comp sci would be the same amount as you would get from AP Chem (most colleges give 4 credit hours for music theory and 4 hours for comp sci, and will give 8 credit hours for chemistry) Plus if your planning on going into medicine AP Chemistry would definately be the class to choose.

Would you like to study the material covered in CS and Music Theory? There's a great benefit to learn things that are interesting rather than just b/c it'll advance your supposed "profile"

But this isn't even a matter of this person choosing to take a class to make their application better, this is a matter of this person studying something to further their soon to be career.

So it's a question of more interesting classes or more useful class.
Personally, I would go with the more useful class... You can take CS and Theory in college, and you might even decide you don't want to take those classes anymore.

I don't know how interesting Music Theory and CS are to the OP, but I thought my AP Chem class was a blast! You get to do so many cool labs! So if Music and CS are more interesting to the OP, then maybe pre-med isn't the way to go? I would opt for Chem, taking 2 semester classes over a whole year doesn't help you in any way, and you will need to take that Chem class at some point.

well here's what I wonder. If you are a senior which I am guessing and you want to be a pre-med student I would go and take AP Chemistry. I took it and there was only seven kids in the class so everybody learned. At the end we all got 4's and 5's on the test because it was a small class. By looking at your schedule I see that you are thinking about tacking both gov't and econ. you do know that these are two completely different classes. I should know I am tacking these classes. If I were you I would take these classes.

AP English Lit

AP American Gov't/Comparative Politics

AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics

AP Biology

AP Calculus BC

AP Chemistry

This is just me but I think 6 is a lot of work, especially with gov't and econ. fun classes but a lot of work.

There is nothing wrong with taking one Gov and one Econ. Macro/Micro and Comparative/U.S. are different classes in college as well as by APs reckoning. If anything I would think it would be better to take one of each to get a taste of both fields.

Thanks for the input. I know this will be a hard choice. I still don't know which one would be more beneficial overall. I'm thinking Chemistry if I want to go premed, but 6 AP's would look nice.
