Which one should I choose?

Hey, guys. I got accepted in the Scholars Program at Northeastern and a DSS Program at Bard. I choose to study computer science. Since both of the colleges offer a lot of money, so the money matter is not important. But I'm talking about opportunities and future. Which one should I choose?

Thanks so much.

What matters isn’t how much money they offer, but rather how much each costs after subtracting grants/scholarships, but not any loan or anything else.
I think DSS at Northeastern has probably more professional opportunities, but if you want an artsy liberat arts school where you’ll get to study both CS and other subjects of interest, Bard is excellent. it depends on your goals.

The DSS at Bard is the Distinguished Scientist Scholarship - full tuition, offered to students who choose to major in a science. It’s a great scholarship - so I think the poster is right in saying the money is not the important factor here. Northeastern and Bard are going to be two completely different experiences. One large in a city, the other small liberal arts in the Hudson Valley. Have you visited both? Have you looked at the course offerings? Computer Science at Bard will be a small program with more limited offerings - but with a lot of personal attention from the professors.

I have visited Northeastern only and the school is so great; they have a separate school for computer science: the college of computer and information science. Also, the Northeastern scholars program DOES play a lot of attention to each student. I’m so confused about both the schools.

I recommend that you look at the course offerings for Computer Science at Bard. It is going to be much more limited than Northeastern. The difference will be the real opportunity for one-on-one tutorials in areas of interest to you. This is common at Bard. Bard is a small school, and isolated. The number of students majoring in Computer Science will be a small group - nothing like having an entire school of them. Are you an International student? There is a large population of international students at Bard. 16-20% I believe. Northeastern will be much easier to travel to from abroad, however. Not that it’s impossible to get to Bard, just harder. The arts are very strong at Bard and most of the students you will meet will be passionate about intellectual pursuits. There will be a LOT of reading and writing required in all your courses, and the level expected of you will be high. Northeastern will not have the same intellectual student body, and, not the same kind of professors across the board. (There are always exceptions, of course - but Bard has quite an extraordinary roster of professors.) Bard has wide distribution requirements - you will have to take courses in all major areas. I don’t know what Northeastern’s curriculum requirements are - but you should check it out. My guess is that if you’re solely focused on a career in computer science Northeastern will probably provide a more direct track and better professional training - but if you’re interested in computer science as more of an intellectual pursuit of discovery - Bard would be the place. Of course, I’m saying this with absolutely no knowledge of either program! I know Bard, but not the computer science department. And I don’t know Northeastern at all! So, please do discount some of what I say about Northeastern - as I’m just surmising.
