which one should I go to?

NYU
Brandeis U
Vassar College
Grinnell College

I’d say go to whichever one you like best.

But-

NYU- in the city; not much campus life- “the city is the campus” (which is awesome for some, but if you want a “traditional” campus experience, not for you)

Vassar- gorgeous campus; but not exactly in a real exciting area

I don’t know anything about the other 2 (except Brandeis has lots of Jews, haha).

I would go to either Vassar or NYU. It all comes down to which environment you like better.

Of course you need to decide where you would be most comfortable. But, for me, the easy choice would be Brandeis. Brandeis is a truly an amazing school. It’s a special combination of small liberal arts college and world-class research university-with the smallest student body I believe (less than 800 in a class) of any top tier national research university matched with high-powered professors who actually teach in small classes. So, the research opportunities are tremendous. Plus it’s very close to Boston, which is the world’s best college town, but on its own suburban campus.

Its intellectual environment is comparable in many ways to its University Athletic Association sister school, U Chicago (perhaps no coincidence that the President of U Chicago is a Brandeis alum). Yet its students are down-to-earth, friendly and non-competitive with one another. FYI in a recent Forbes national college rankings survey, Brandeis was ranked 15th among research universities and 30th overall among all private univerities and LAC’s–a testament to its focus on undergraduate education. Larger schools, including some Ivies, were ranked much lower.

Despite its small size and relative youth, its alumni are very distinguished–e.g. nobel and pulitzer prize winners, international leaders and renowned folks in business, the sciences, academia and the arts. Also, if you’re into social justice or theater/music/art, it’s a very exciting place to be.

With respect to the reference to the Jewish population, you should understand that Brandeis is quite diverse overall and less than 50% of its student body is Jewish. Brandeis is a non-sectarian school that embraces students from all types of backgrounds based on merit. The school has no religious affiliation, although it was founded and is funded signigicantly by the Jewish community. Its diversity is underscored by its large international population–you can check out numerous posts on this website related to that topic.

Good luck with your decision!

There are so many questions and things to consider! Among them:

-what’s the situation financially?
-what are you interested in studying?
-how far away from home would each be?
-what sort of academic environment are you most interested are?
-what are some extracurriculars you really want to be able to participate in or observe?
-urban, suburban, or rural? also, what sort of environment are you used to, and are you willing to change that?

these are four VERY different schools. I suggest you sit down for a bit and think about what you really want. Not only location wise, but also program and people wise. These schools are for four very different people.

NYU is in the middle of a big city with no real campus. If you are looking for the next four years in a city then this school is for you.
Brandeis is located right outside of Boston, so if you are looking for a school that has a campus but also access to a city this is for you.
Vassar is located in the country but with a medium size population.
Grinnell is located in the middle of nowhere and has the smallest population. It is also very different from the other three because of its policy of self governance and the type of people it attracts.

You should just sit down and think about the type of person you are and the type of person that would go to each of these schools. I think your decision will then be quite clear.

These are all great choices. I would go to the place that offers the best aid and if they are close you need to visit, trust your instincts and pick the place you feel comfortable.

Vassar is located in a medium size city, but it is close to many state parks and Hudson River attractions. It is also a very easy train ride into NYC, so you get the best of city, suburbs and country. It has an incredibly gorgeous campus, excellent academics and great entertainment coming to campus every week. But having said that, what is it you want to study? All the schools you list are well respected academically but have their strengths and weaknesses. Base your decision on what you plan to study.

i got into brandeis and am visiting next week! it’s my frontrunner now and B77 said pretty much everything about how i feel about the school. Unless they give me didly jack or I get into brown, I am going there probs

Vassar or Grinell

shards, we can only answers your question if you give more detail. what do you want to major in? what kind of social life do you want? what kind of environment do you want to spend four years in?

NYU stern? If not then vassar.

Personally, I’d choose Grinnell if it were me. Having said that, whichever you prefer you should choose.

Vassar or NYU!
