which one worth more in the application? no paid intern or 3 months research experience

Which one is worth more in the graduate school application ?
I am computer science major and I am going to apply human computer interaction program. I will sending out my application this November

1: a no paid summer internship. I am also studying GRE this summber. If I take a no paid internship, I have to reduce my time for GRE studying. So I want to know If it is worth
2: research which will start this september my senior year. If I mention this on my application, I can only say I have only been involved in this research 3 months

Do you mean an unpaid internship?

I think you should do what you want to do. But the answer to your question depends on the kind of grad school you intend to apply to.

If you want to go to a professional master’s program, either is fine, depending on what you are doing in the unpaid internship. If it’s grabbing coffee and picking up dry cleaning, obviously not great. But many unpaid internships have elements of research to them as well.

If you want to go to an academic/research-based master’s program or a PhD program, the research experience will be better.

But why do you have to choose? Why can’t you do the unpaid internship over the summer and then start the research in September?

Also, the GRE doesn’t require hours and hours of study. If you have the entire summer, you can study for a few hours each Saturday and have plenty of time.
