Would you guys rather go to Yale or Stanford and why?

why do you ask this on the Yale forum?

Stanford because Yale doesn't want me

(He/She could've asked it both places)

I would go to Yale because it's smaller, res college, closer to home, less stereotypical "houses" stuff, and the city is more fun (it's also close to New York/Boston)

Stanford-for no reason other than the one that the Physics program there is AMAZING
But then again-YAle: languages and linguistics <sigh>
So frankly I have no idea.
Other than the fact that the weather at Stanford is warmer and I come from a tropical country...
Buut this is all irrelevant since I dont have a chance of getting into eithr</sigh>

Never say never! BTW whereever I go I want a good language/linguistics program too. mm.

Yale. Like zantedeschia said, it's smaller, res colleges, more interesting city. Add in better schedule, traditionally stronger in humanities, and change of setting- I live an hour away from Stanford and god bless California, but I need change! Change and snow. The only reasons Stanford is my 2nd choice are because the parentals want me close to home, I have friends and family attending/working there, and I like the Bay Area.

bump .

Stanford has better weather..
but that wouldn't be the determinant factor in my decision between the two
between the two i would go to...whichever one of them accepts me!

Okay, let's say that hypothetically both of them accept you.

if both accepted me it would be a VERY tough choice although I think I have a better chance with Yale than with Stanford as the earlier app deadline forced me to send in stuff that wasnt polished to my degree of satisfaction

i wouldnt be able to turn down yale for.....any school :)

well, princeton would give it a good run for its money...but when the time comes to choose between princeton and yale, lol, ill be ready

i'll have to look at their aid decisions..
since they're equally outstanding schools i'd just have to pick the school that's willing to give me more $$$

I've lived in Palo Alto my whole life (and for all you applying to Stanford I'm sure you know that's where it is...). I applied to Yale EA (deferred) and am not applying to Stanford at all (only because I want to go somewhere new). Anyway, here's what I think of Palo Alto/The Bay Area, for any of you who want to here an inside perspective:
First of all, as someone said, Palo Alto is certainly not the most interesting city ever BUT for a suburb there is a lot going on. All major bands play here at least one night on their tours (and often two nights), there's downtown Palo Alto which has so many amazing restaurants (I STILL haven't eaten at even half of them, there are so many!) and San Francisco is only 45 minutes north, while San Jose is only 30 minutes south. And you can find anything you want in San Francisco. It's an awesome city. For the shopping-inclined, there's Stanford mall IN Stanford, and Valley Fair (HUGE! Has everything you could ever want) is only 25 minutes away. There are lots of college kids in the area, and the community in really really nice. Basically, if I hadn't grown up here, Stanford would be the perfect school for me. Palo Alto is amazing. For serious. And I've been lots of places.

Definitely Yale

why though??

Oh, Kara, that sounds really nice. Too bad I couldn't apply because my mom threated to kill herself if I went so far away...
