Are you looking to play soccer in college?

Reaches: Berkeley, Georgetown, Duke, Cornell, Pomona
High matches/low reaches: UCLA, NYU, Claremont McKenna

bump......

You are top heavy, IMHO. WHy not look for some schools that you can like that are safeties? That's the hard part. Then pick your favorites from the list you posted.

i have safeties. these are the other "favorite" schools

I think you can easily make it into NYU, UCSD, USC. You can definitely make UCLA, and Cornell with a little luck. Of course try getting a higher SAT score or try taking the ACT.

bumpppppppp

Summary: 3.97 UW 4.39 W, 2060 SAT I, 1360 CR/M, 725 SAT II average (on 2 tests), 3 APs (2 "5"s, 1 "3"), Rank in top 2%, IB Diploma Candidate (and you took APs on your own, then?), very good ECs, but no academic regional or national awards, California resident, no legacies or URM

Georgetown--Match, though it depends upon major
UCLA--Match
UC Berkeley--Match
USC--Match
UCSD--Safe Match to Match
NYU--Match
Duke--Reach (need 2150+ SAT or academic award to be considered match)
Claremont McKenna--Slight Reach
Pomona--Slight Reach
Cornell--Match

umm how is CM and pomona slight reach when cornell and georgetown are matches?

I figure..

Georgetown - slight reach
UCLA - match
Berkeley - match
USC - match
UCSD - safe match
NYU - safe match - match
Duke - reach
CM - match
pomona - match
cornell - slight reach - reach

Pomona is more selective than Cornell, so how could Pomona be a reach and Cornell a match?

yeah.. i don't really understand that either

Pomona is more selective (meaning harder to get into) than Cornell.

If you don't believe me, look it up.

I've only been doing this for three years--so I do know the stats.

P.S. Cornell selectivity per Princeton Review=97, Pomona selectivity=98 (and closer to 99 last year)

Also, both UC Berkeley and UCLA are 98, but not for California students (which is what the OP is). (They are closer to 96 for California students).

Two years ago, Pomona had the second highest average SATs (CR/M) of any school in the country, at a paltry 1520/1600, which was higher than every school except Harvard (1540/1600) that year.

You need to take the sat again and improve on the cr. If not the following in particular will be pretty big reaches. The cal schools less so if in state.

UCLA
UC Berkeley
Georgetown
Pomona
Duke
Cornell

i'm kind of a noob, so can someone tell me what "bump" means/signifies??? lol i'm seeing this everywhere.
Anyways all of these reaches and mathes are relative because it depends on what major your going into, like Nyu Gallatin and Nyu Stern are very different in terms of stats. Idk if I'm correct but I think Ponoma is a Liberal Arts college and thus compared to cornell LSA will be more selective..... just my 2 cents worth =]

Just adding to the record, Pomona is concidered the Harvard of the WEst so yeah, it's a little more selective than Cornell. But are you a legacy at any of the schools?

OP--I basically agree with what other people have said. Out of curiousity, do you think you can raise your CR score at all? Even if you could bring it up to 650 or something, it would put you in a better position. I'm just curious if you're planning to take the SAT again or try the ACT.

Fuzzylogic--"bump" is what the OP (original poster) does so that their thread won't disappear--by posting in it (even just saying "bump"), the OP is "bumping" it to the top of the list of posts, making it more likely that others will reply (once your post gets onto page two or three, it doesn't usually get many more responces).

jhouck11- im am not a legacy at any of the schools :/

^^I am taking my sat II's in june, and hopefully if i do well on those, I will retake the SAT I in either October or November. I have never been much of a reader so my CR always lacks. Do you think its possible to raise it up 30 points or more?? If so, what do you think the best way would be to do that?
