I'm an Oregonian high school senior. I was pretty set on going to Oregon State University before a series of events that happened to me recently and I've decided that I really want to go to University of Washington. Obviously the deadline is way past, so I'm focusing on transferring in now. Should I 1) go to washington CC, 2) go to WSU or 3) go to OSU? I have about 40-55 ap credits, 1900 sat and 3.6 gpa. is there anyway I can transfer in one year? Any input is welcome. Thanks very much!

You’ll be considered a transfer student if you have 45 credits, so you’d have to take a full load. State law says a certain percentage of students have to be transfer from a WA State CC, so those are considered more strongly than ones from WSU, but I don’t know how they would count an OOS from OSU.

Another thing to consider is the potential for gaining residency during a year at a WA state CC. I’m not up to date on the specifics for establishing residency because I’m in state, but I do know that tuition is considerably cheaper for ISS. Plus, as XaviFM said, there are favorable quotas for WA state community colleges that don’t work out so neatly for our south of the (state) border neighbors.

If you are considering WSU, make a point of visiting campus first before deciding, if you can. I’ve taken two full years of classes there as a high schooler, which gives me a semi distanced viewpoint on my fellow students there, and it really would take a visit to quite get a feel for the level of academic rigour, steepness of the hills, party culture, things to do in Pullman, etc.

Pullman is awesome. Fun town to spend a little bit of time. Just not to live forever.

seconded. 100%
