My parents are divorced but neither are the custodial parent so I'm confused as to which parent to use on my PROFILE. I am supposed to live with them both equal amounts of time, but I spend most of the summers with my mom. However, my dad is the one who will pay for most of my college, so I feel like I might be cheating the system if I use my moms info. Help?

If you live with your parents equally, the one who contributes the MOST to your finances is the one you put on the FAFSA.

If you live with one parent more than the other, then the one with whom you live the most is the one you put on the FAFSA…regardless of income.

SO…if you live with your mom more than your dad (not just summers but for the whole year) then you put your mom down. If you live with your dad more, you put your dad down.

If it’s equal…it sounds like you would use your dad since he contributes more financially than your mom.

Thumper is correct. Use the parent that you spend the most time with in terms of days and if that ends up being your mom thank your dad over and over for helping with college. If it it genuinely equal 6 months with one and 6 months with the other (and we have friends who have these exact terms and since they live in the same town it works for the kids and school) then use the one that provides the greater financial support ( which is how the directions are written.)
