Like if I took one in school and self-studied the other, which one should I do? I've already got a 5 on BC Calc and the Physics teacher at my school is pretty good.

I personally didn’t find one significantly worse than the other. They were both hard as hell. I can’t really say which one you’d find easier, it depends on what you’re good at.

I wouldn’t recommend self-studying either of them. If your school offers both classes, then take both. It’ll save you a ton of trouble, especially if you have a good teacher.

Is it that you have a Physics B class, but you want to self-study C because your teacher doesn’t go over it? That’s how it is for me. I have heard that both are really hard (some people just get physics and the rest don’t). But it is just B+Calculus, so if you got a 5 on Calc BC, I would definitely consider it. That is what I’m doing, and I’m going to ask my physics teacher to help me with C…

If you took calculus last year, I’d recommend Mechanics. Your calculus skills will make a lot of the problems a breeze (not necessarily a majority). Half of mechanics is learning the basic calculus behind it (work, vectors, velocity, acceleration). The other half, which you’ll have to study, encompasses such topics as momentum, rotational kinetics, equilibrium, etc. If you will take calculus concurrently, you could still take mechanics if you start your self-study later.

If you want to start studying early and will be taking calculus concurrently OR if you want less topics to learn, E&M would be the way to go. There are three topics essentially: circuits (pretty easy to self study, imo), electricity, and magnetism. You should learn the topics in that order, as magnetism will contain some electricity and circuit stuff. You have less topics to learn, but you have to learn them each far more in depth. If you want to get a taste of what you’ll be learning, I recommend the site hippocampus.com. You will find some great E&M tutorials there. Basically, without those tutorials, E&M was a ***** for me.
