I think the science is most difficult. I think if I were given more time, science would be significantly easier. I’m usually a pretty fast test taker but I’m always clenching to every last minute

My rankings are a little different (Easiest to Hardest):

English
Science
Reading
Math

I think Math is the easiest - I’m in Calc, though, and I’ve gone through all of the algebra/geometry/trig that is tested. Then English (though I always make stupid mistakes!) - for both the math and the english, as long as you know the basics, a lot of it is just regurgitation. Reading is also not too difficult, if anything, it’s the time constraint. I agree with jesshehehaha, the science section is probably the most diffcult because 1) it requires you to actually think and 2) it doesn’t give you too much time.

Reading

Honestly, school prepares you the best if you take better courses
Like sciencefrenchie, Im in Calc so I think Math is easier for those who are in higher classes
And I dont find science that bad because 6/7 experiments or passages that are there, I’ve already done or learned in school(mainly cuz i’ve taken AP classes for bio chem and physics)
English is just practice to get better but its not hard at all if you stick to it
But…

There is no possible way to study for reading…which really stinks…
But i guess i deserve it- I havent picked up a book for leisure in the past 4 years xD

It really depends… some of the Humanities passages in Reading bore the heck out of me… some of the math things throw me for a loop… I guess, for me, math and reading are hardER than the other sections… I still do really well on them though. =D

Wow, why do the majority of people find the math portion to be the easiest?

I’m in trig/pre-calculus and I’ve been finding it to be difficult.

Math for me has never been a problem. It’s just cause some of us are math/science oriented thats all. However grammar and spelling… haha sometimes it can get out of control. Especially the spelling.

I think with most people it revolves around time. I just took it Saturday and I was really surprised how fast I did the first three, and how much time I didn’t have on the Science.

E->H

Math (Finished about ten minutes early)
English (Finished VERY early… had enough time to check all of my answers)
Reading (Somehow finished about 5-10 minutes early)
Science (Had to fill in answers at the end ■■■)

I don’t think any of the sections are necessarily “hard,” it’s just the science is a lot to handle in that amount of time.

Maybe it’s solely a matter of how much time is devoted to studying the material and how well one can replicate the testing conditions.

Math is definitely hardest due to the amount of material required. If you can barely remember matrices from last year’s Honors Algebra II, then you’ll really be screwed when you screw up on the 14 Geometry questions. You basically need 2 1/2 years of classes (Geometry, Alg. II, and easy Trig) to get a 36. Science and English, however, are easy for me. 36’s for days, lol. The important thing on these sections is to be good at critical reading. I read nonfiction at least 98% of the time (not exaggerating: I only read one novel per 3 months) so it was easy to analyze the questions very logically. The first time I took the ACT, I scored a 34 partly because my English and Science were so high (36 and 35, respectively). I took a practice English section beforehand, butnotscience.
science
I’ve never been able to break a 30 in that section
Easiest to hardest:
English
Math
Science
Reading
Reading is the hardest for me because I’m just naturally a slow reader that likes to take in a lot of detail when I read but I learned a strategy to just skim through the passage and get a general idea of it, answer the easiest questions (line references), develop a mental map of which part of the passage says what, and answer the other questions by skimming through the passage and searching for evidence. Also, to always read the answer choices before tackling a question and searching for it in the passage!
The others are pretty easy for me. English you just need to know the principles of grammar. Math is easy if you know SOHCATOA, distance formula, plane geometry, slope formula, etc. and it could be easier to solve a question by drawing it or writing the important information on the side. Science is pretty straightforward, nearly all the questions are in the graphs/tables. My strategy is to fully understand the question: reread it till I know what it’s asking and search for the values in the graphs/tables in the question (mm, Hz, etc.). These are just the strategies that work for me. (:
In my opinion
easiest to hardest
Reading, English, Science, Math
Easiest to hardest:
math, English, science, reading
Science
Easiest to hardest: Reading, Science, English, Math.
English
For me it’s time
Science. The ACT’s new writing section is pretty bad too. I had read the prep books and thought it would just be a nice 5-paragraph traditional persuasive essay. Not all this “analyze these people’s perspectives” nonsense. (I.e. I wish I had scored better!)
