<p>My son's phone (which uses the Verizon network) doesn't get reception inside his dorm. His dad's phone (Nextel) wouldn't work there either. Mine (Sprint) worked in the dorm, but I haven't really tried it anywhere else on campus. </p>
<p>I'm trying to figure out which phone to get for my son, to have the best coverage on campus. </p>
<p>Can anyone recommend specific phones/networks that work well on campus?</p>
<p>I have a son who is a student living on campus and my husband is a faculty member. We have had no problem with AT&T.</p>
<p>My S lived in Pollock and we both use Verizon. We have no problems with reception on campus. S has a RAZR and I have a cheapy LG phone (not sure of the model). </p>
<p>Where is your S living? Is he somewhere on a middle floor of one of the East dorms where the building might be interferring with reception? Does he have problems when he is other places on campus?</p>
<p>Karp, my S is in South. The phone works at some locations near his dorm, but not inside of it. Perhaps it's the phone itself that's the problem (it's an older cheapy model). I'm going to bring another Verizon phone down this weekend and see how that works.</p>
<p>We have Verizon and it works fine at PSU. But our service here in our home was pretty poor. Got a new phone with better "pull" and it's much better. Ask the techies at a Verizon store and they can direct you to the best phones for pulling in a signal.</p>
<p>We had the same problem with another phone; new phones made a big difference.</p>
<p>I use T-Mobile and had no problem in South Halls.</p>
<p>My son had great reception all of campus with AT&T, cheap phone.</p>
<p>My daughter has been using Cingular/ATT for 2 years now with no problems anywhere on campus. Sometimes when she'd be in the elevator in her dorm at Thompson Hall we would get disconnected but that is typical.</p>
<p>Update: we got S a new Verizon phone and this one works fine in the dorm. We didn't want to get locked into a contract, so we went with inPulse, the prepaid Verizon plan. It has free unlimited in-network minutes (plus unlimited nighttime minutes) so I think it will work out well.</p>
