Which Pre-Med Program is better?

Hi everyone! I am currently a junior in high school and I am looking at colleges that have a good pre-med program/guidance. I prefer to stay in the midwest. I picked some schools to look at. I’ve been given advice to go to a “low key” college and then try for an ivy league school for medical school. I’m just curious to know which of the following schools have the better pre-med program;

  1. Indiana University Bloomington
  2. Loyola Chicago university
  3. Miami University
  4. Purdue University

They all would be fine, and probably equal. How affordable are they? That should be a concern as well. What are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay at each school?

Is Miami-Oh OOS for you? If so, will your parents pay the high OOS costs or the high private costs for Loyola

This should be the furthest thing from your mind right now. All US med schools are excellent. You’ll be lucky to get into any of them. They all teach the same thing, the education is flat.

What are your stats?

While it’s true that your chances for premed success can be greater if you go to an undergrad that isn’t loaded with tippy top students, the premed prereqs will still be a huge challenge and getting As will still be difficult. All schools weed.

University of Toledo Bacc2MD program tends to fund its students very well so they will be able to afford to move on into med school. http://www.utoledo.edu/offices/studentservices/preprofessional/Baccalaureate_MD_Program.html
OOS tuition is very reasonable and auto merit aid for OOS is very generous

My parents will pay for any college I want to go to. I had 3 brothers that attended Boston University (which was almost $70,000 a year in total) and I don’t want them to pay that much for me, especially if I want to go to Med School.
My current GPA is 3.7, I got a 31 on my ACT, and I have yet to take the SAT.

If you choose a lower cost school for undergraduate, will they offer the difference to your medical school costs?

IMHO, get the best ACT or SAT scores to see where you can get merit. Do you want a flagship school or a more intimate setting? Would you consider a flagship with great honors programs? Do you want to stay in a geographic area? Have you visited various schools to see if you like a school that is in a particular sized city, what are some key things you would like with UG experience? Do you know what you want to study as UG? Since your family has college experiences with your older siblings, and you have visited these campuses - talk with your parents and others that know you.

Agree that you need to concentrate on UG fit - and getting very good grades if wanting professional school like med school. Also there are many extra experiences that will help with med school application - so see what opportunities there are at various schools, or summer in your home town area.

Also look at a school if you decide to go a different route too - want to have enough there to attend 4 years, even with change of major or change in career direction.

I prefer to stay in the mid west. I’m okay with any size school. I want to major in Biology.

They are going to pay for both
