I've used up practice tests for BB and PR. I have Kaplan's 12 Practice Tests left, but I've been getting mixed opinions about that company. I'm struggling to get to my 2000's, so is Kaplan a reasonable source to study from?

Plus, it seems like there are no other good practice test books left.

Try RocketReview. Adam Robinson worked with John Katzman to develop PR in the 1980’s. I’ve always thought Robinson was the brain behind the book and Katzman was the salesman who built the company. (I have no real evidence to support this, just a strong impression that Katzman is the P.T. Barnum of the test prep industry.)

Kaplan is good for practice, just don’t put any stock in the score being equivalent to what to expect on the SAT.

For reading - study vocabulary lists, read The New York Times or similar publications (but read it like an SAT passage), sign up for delanceyplace.com for additional reading passages.

For math - Kaplan math workbooks is solid.

Most importantly, you need to find some additional practice tests from College Board. Ask your friends who took the SAT in the last year if they ordered the test. Also, you could register for the collegeboard.com online account, which offers some additional practice questions and tests. Finally, if you’re reaching for material, you can use the real ACT book…just don’t do the science sections.

CR- 570 (lowest I have ever gotten-been getting mid 600’s on BB)
Math- 620 (also lowest-been getting high 600-low 700’s on BB)
Writing- 640 (essay:8, but I’ve been getting 1-2 wrong on BB, so I don’t understand the big score difference)

So that’s a total of a lowly 1830.

For reading, I order Times so I’ll get to that. Also, I just bought Barron’s 2400 and it’s been getting awesome reviews. What do you guys think?

@SriMuppidi: For Kaplan, it can’t be that bad, right? I mean sure they’re easy, but redoing easy questions ensures that you won’t make a stupid mistake on the real thing. I’ve also heard that they can boost your score to about a 2000, but from that score on, you got to go with Barron’s.

You’re off to a good start. I was in desperate need to raise my SAT score(s), and I found that some things worked better than others. I used the Barrons book- not the 2400 one, but the other with 5 practice tests, and a diagnostic test. With that I raised my score 200 points.

In need of another score increase, I borrowed a book from a friend. I used Hack the SAT by Elliot Schrefer. I found that this book was amazing, and I would recommend it to everyone. I studied this non-stop till I was confident with taking the SAT again. Went in and raised my writing score alone, 70 points.

What I wouldn’t recommend would be to use vocabulary flashcards, unless you’re truly dedicated to actually learning them. I know I had that problem, and I wasted some valuable time on studying those rather than other useful things.
