I've searched on CC and it seems that people recommend the red, official ACT book for the tests and the Princeton Review for content.

On Amazon.com though, the ACT for Dummies has better reviews than the 2010 PR. Which edition of the PR should I get? Although generally, I'm wary of Kaplan, the Kaplan ACT book also has decent reviews.

After the red book, which is the best? How would you rank the following? I'm aiming for a 36. Thanks.

PR Cracking the ACT 2010: Amazon.com: Cracking the ACT, 2010 Edition (College Test Preparation) (9780375429620): Princeton Review: Books
Barron's ACT 36: Amazon.com: Barron's ACT 36: Aiming for the Perfect Score (9780764140228): Anne Summers M.A., Krista L. McDaniel M.A., Alexander Spare, Jonathan Pazol: Books
Barron's ACT: Amazon.com: Barron's ACT (Barron's How to Prepare for the Act American College Testing Program Assessment (Book Only)) (9780764140006): George Ehrenhaft Ed.D., Robert L. Lehrman M.A., Fred Obrecht M.A., Allan Mundsack M.A.: Books
ACT for Dummies: Amazon.com: The ACT For Dummies (9780764596520): Michelle Rose Gilman, Veronica Saydak, Suzee Vlk: Books
Kaplan ACT 2010 Premier: Amazon.com: Kaplan ACT 2010 Premier with CD-ROM (Kaplan Act (Book & Online)) (9781419553271): Kaplan: Books

From what I’ve heard, the PR Cracking the ACT book is the best. That’s the one I have. And I also have Barrons. But I think its what you’re able to take out of the books, as well. But get PR Cracking the ACT, definitely.

I read through Cracking the ACT once, took a couple practice exams, and scored a 30 composite. It is a really good review and simulates the actual ACT very well. I would highly recommend it.

There’s also a 1,296 ACT Practice Questions by PR and I thought that helped, so…we’ll see. That and the McGrawHill 10 practice tests along with the real ACT helped me get a 33 (still have a few more times to take it :()

“I read through Cracking the ACT once, took a couple practice exams”

Did the practice exams come with this book? If not, where did you get the practice exams?

Also, what was your baseline test score (without using the book-aid)?

also, anyone, I happened to find the 2008 version of this book at our local library. To what extent is looking at this version of the book l helpful or would it be not productive to use a 2008 book?

The practice exams came out of PR. I didn’t take the practice exams before studying, so I don’t know what I would have scored without studying. Probably around the same though, since everything is pretty basic. It’s just the time constraints that make it hard.
