which program should I attend?

I was accepted into the Lehigh/Drexel 7-year BA/MD program, the Drexel/Drexel 7-year program, and the 8-year St.Bonavneture/GWU School of Medicine program.

Which should I attend? The Lehigh and Drexel programs both go to Drexel U College of Medicine and both require me to take the MCATS..

I’d say you should go to Lehigh/Drexel 7-year BA/MD program…

and waterbottle,i don’t mean to waste your time or anything, but would you mind posting your stats???:)

st. bonaventure is a crap school, but GWU is a great med school

Drexel med school isnt as good as GWU, but both Lehigh and Drexel are good undergrads, lehigh being the better one
Lehigh/Drexel is better because it will prepare you better for med school, while with st. bonaventure/gwu, you’d have an extremely tough time in med school since you were so underprepared in undergrad

The preparation is not likely to be substandard at any college. For one thing, very little preparation is actually needed for med school. They only require intro bio, gen chem, orgo, and physics. You probably won’t even use orgo in med school and very minimal physics and gen chem. The reason med schools require prereq’s is not for preparation purposes but rather to weed out the students who aren’t smart enough. In reality, any of these courses could be properly taught in high school.

I’m biased towards GWU because I think it’s a great med school in a great location and I do not like accelerated programs. In the end, whether you end up practicing for 51 vs. 52 years, that’s not the important thing. The important thing is that you’ll essentially have cut your college experience by 25%. This is really the period where you’ll be living life up. Once you get into med school, you won’t have that opportunity again.

Thank you Norcal for your response. I am not sure why Sup. thinks SBU is a “crap school and you will get a lousy education”. I do appreciate your feedback that GWU is a good school and is rated better than Drexel.
So thanks, how about PSU Hershey?

George Washington University School of Medicine was put on probation in 2008

[Panel’s Review Lands Medical School on Probation - washingtonpost.com](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/15/AR2008101503120.html)

I don’t know much about PSU. I’m sure it’s a great school. One of the reasons is that the LCME (the accrediting agency for medical education) is so strict. As HighHope noted, GWU got placed on probation this year. I’m not too concerned about it as it is not going to lose accreditation anytime soon (in fact, no school has lost accreditation after being placed on probation).

In fact, in 1999, Stanford Medical School, yes Stanford Medical School, was a few votes shy of being placed on probation itself:

http://daily.stanford.edu/article/1999/4/6/medSchoolBarelyEscapesProbation

Last year, when I interviewed at Columbia for medical school, there was a ton of construction going on because, you guessed it, Columbia was in trouble with the LCME. I think you should carefully do your research about why the school is on probation. But, it’s not the end of the world for a school to get placed on probation.
