In my "Why Stanford?" essay, I used a Pixar quote that fits the rest of my essay well, but I'm torn over whether it's appropriate or if it comes off as too childish. This is the line that I used, as the concluding line for the essay: "As Buzz Lightyear put so wisely, 'To infinity and beyond!'"

So basically, is it only okay to use quotes from "serious" people?

Skip out on any quotations at all (unless they’re real dialogue in an anecdote). You want to make the essay as personal as possible, and quotations just make it look kinda informal and tacky.

Hmm, I guess the essay itself is serious compared to the quote, but a lot if it is also about youth and the tone is much more conversational than formal. I was also considering finding another quote, but I can’t think of any off the top of my head that would fit as well, so I might just take lollege’s idea and just cut it out completely. I did like it a lot though…:(

To be honest, I think that using the quote you posted can detract from an other serious, genuine essay to the point of making it sound corny. Then again, it’s up to you, since we haven’t read the essay. If it fits the tone and you feel it’s necessary, keep it.
