Which residence hall?

I'm looking for a residence hall but I can't decide which one to choose. I want a relatively social dorm that is close to dining, the gym (so I can work out), classes, etc. I'm looking at broward and Jennings (because i heard they are pretty social) and on the map they look close to everything but the map doesn't show actual distance. how far are they from the dining place and gym? Like how long of a walk is it?

Thanks,

Broward seems to be the most social freshman dorm. It is next to Broward Dining Hall. You can reach many other dining places in 5-10 minutes walking (little hall mini mart/sandwiches/etc)…The closest gym to the residence halls is Florida Gym…but it is the older gym. Take a bus/scooter to SW Rec center…the student health club which is truly state of the art…You can’t walk there from the residence halls (except maybe Lakeside, but then you are far from dining areas). It is free to all students with loads of all kinds of machines, rec sports, jogging track, etc. You can also jog around “The Swamp” football stadium… If you live in Jennings, it is just a little quieter …with tons of girls floors and only a few guys floors…and add another 5 minutes or so to any walking you would do from Broward.

Here is a link for a dining map for you…You can locate broward hall (by broward dining) and jennings hall and various places to eat…also…SW Recreation Center is way out by the Health and Wellness Center…definitely a ride from central campus https://www.bsd.ufl.edu/dining/GatorDiningMap_20110921.pdf

I’m hoping to get a room in Fletcher, Sledd or Murphree. I know they are older, but they seem to be the closest to everything, and are mostly upperclassmen. I’m going to be transferring in as a junior, so that seems to be a better fit. I know it can be hard to get a room there for new students though, so we will see.

Thanks jankrav that really helps. The maps are annoying because they don’t tell you how long of a walk it is, just a relative distance. (I’m visiting in 2 weeks which is why I haven’t seen it for myself yet). I think I’ll go with Broward then Jennings and then Trusler as my third choice

propwash…Choose Murphree if you can over Fletcher or Sledd…Murphree has sinks in the room (nice!) and a privacy wall btwn. roommates. You are right…if you are a transfer student, you will meet upperclassmen in the dorms on the University St. side of campus. My D lived in Fletcher and liked it…it and Sledd were built in the 1930’s though! Murphree has been updated a little bit more…Good luck…all new students are looking for a new group of friends, so age doesn’t really matter…just be friendly :)

My daughter got in to Thomas Hall. Her 1st choice was Beatty. Can anyone tell me what that’s like? I’m concerned that she won’t be around a lot of freshman. She is quite shy. Also, does Thomas have sinks in the rooms and privacy walls like Murphree?

Pick the any hall in Murphree area. I live in Buckman right now and it is in a super convenient location to everything.

@chinadolll: other than convenience, what else do you like about living in Buckman? What’s it like without AC? Are the ceiling fans enough, or do you recommend she get the portable AC unit? Also, are the rooms bigger than the other dorms? Thanks for the feedback!
