Hey, I'm a sophomore who is looking to purse an engineering field (probably chemical engineering because I love chemistry, but I'm not positive yet). WHich SAT 2's should I take? I know I should take Chem at the end of this year. Which books are good for that? Should I take math level 1 or just wait a year and take level 2? Or both? What's easier, Biology or Physics? Also, is Latin a waste of time?

Physics is easier than Bio but not by much.
Physics is almost pure formula memorization.

As you are a sophomore, I would suggest taking any SAT IIs featuring subjects that you were taught this year. It does not have to any one(two) particular subject(s), but for now, it is important to do well on the ones you plan on taking.

If you are set on an engineering pursuit in college, I would suggest that you take Math II some time in your high school career (preferably the year you take precalc)

Many schools require 2 to 3 subject tests. Some say that you may submit any 2 of your choice; others (most prominently MIT) require 2 of them be Math II and a science subject test.

As you are already aiming for Chem and a choice between Bio and Physics if not both, I don’t think you should have anything to worry about in regards to fulfilling SAT II requirements.

Good luck on ur subject tests, good luck on colleges when that time rolls around, and hope I helped!

P.S. Latin is not a waste of time! but I dont see it helping your application for an engineering school more than Chem or Math II would help you.

Well I wouldn’t do Latin in place of one of those. If I take it and fail miserably, can I opt to not show anyone that score?

Thank you for your help. I have precalc either in summer school this year or next year in regular school, I haven’t decided yet.

“Physics is almost pure formula memorization.”
Only in fake practice tests. The real thing is theory and concept based.

OP: Math 2 is pretty much mandatory for an engineering student. But it is not very hard - just Pre-Calc stuff, massive curve.

If you’re applying to top-notch privates, then I think taking a humanities test like Lit, World History or US History (depending on which subject you’re the strongest at) shows an impressive breadth of knowledge, which can be a valuable asset.

Also, Maths II is definitely more impressive than Maths I, and also MUCH easier to get an 800 in if you’ve mastered your pre-calc well enough (Case in point: I got an 800 Maths II and 730 Maths I. Massive curve on II, like the above poster said).
