Which SAT scores to send?

My son took SATs twice: 1st time CR:640 M:670 W730. 2nd time: CR:720 M:800 W:700
On the Common App he listed his highest scores from the two tests, but now we wonder if he would be better off only sending schools the results of the second test with the (slightly) lower writing score rather than both tests which will show a much bigger gap in CR and math. If we only send the second set of scores, will the fact that he listed the higher writing score on his common app but did not send the official report make admissions discount the CR and Math scores a bit. They would likely assume (correctly) that he is not sending the first set of scores because the CR and math are lower. Help! I need to get these scores out and I can't decide.

As long as school does not require all scores you can just send the second. They determine admission by official scores sent not by what you put on app and it won’t make any difference that app shows dfferent scores.

thanks drusba. Do you agree (or does anyone else) that it is better just to send the second set of scores? I’m thinking that 30 points more on the writing is not worth the risk that the lower scores on CR and math in the first test drag down the benefit of the higher scores in the second set. Or do admissions officers truly disregard the lower scores? Seems hard to ignore that knowledge once you have it.

I don’t believe the 30 writing points make much difference but whether it is better to send both or just one test depends on whether you truly believe what colleges say. When you submit multiple tests, they claim to use for evaluating admission, depending on college, either (a) that test with highest composite, or (b) the superscore of the mulitiple tests meaning use the highest subscores to get a new superscore total. If in fact they are telling the truth, it is better to send both tests to those that superscore. But therein lies the dilemma. How many can actually bring themselves to believe colleges are being perfectly honest in what they are saying and that they definitely will not consider at all any of the lower scores against you?
