So here's the story. High school junior, loves chemistry but hates math. I want to apply to Georgetown so I have to take 3 subject tests. I plan on majoring in biochemistry so should I take the Biology Sat Subject Test (even though I took it sophomore year, barely got an A, and I'm not too good at the subject)? I was also told that I should take math because everybody who does science majors takes it, but I suck at math. I am willing to study but I'm afraid that I'll do terrible. I also have to retake my SAT (regular test) but I plan on applying early to some colleges so do I have to have everything done by November? Can you apply to a college early and send in the SAT scores later? So many questions, so little time.

It’s usually better to send scores early, just in case the app decision is alredy made. That is why October is usually the last-ditch attempt.

I’d go for sat iis in June. Take bio, that’s mainly reading through Barron’s lol ( I’d recommend ecology, not molecular, because it is pretty much about knowing basic info). Think about doing Chem sat II if you’ve taken ap or honors.

Math II is important, too. You should be fine if you’ve taken precalc and are good using graphing calls. If you can, you’d get a 700 something.

It is generally advised to take 3 subject tests: one in math, science, and humanities (English or history).

Take the sat I in oct and take advantage of summer studying

So from what your telling me I should do one science (I’m a chemistry fanatic), math (I hate math but I’m taking precalculus right now is that math 1 or 2?), and for the humanities… I always get A’s in english and history but I actually know very little. Which one is “easier” and requires less studying? Are there essays or just mc?

I am from NYS and the History SATs covered MANY MANY things that weren’t covered in my regular history class. I recommend it if you take AP History or know about history and have studied for the test. I would say the English is the easier of the two because its all reading. If you can read the passage and analyze a poem you can answer the questions. These are just my own biased opinions. I really don’t know what you’ve gone over in your history class so I say take a practice one on the SAT website and see which you prefer.

Hahah ok then definitely no history. English I do a little better but then again major studying is needed. What SAT II’s do you think I should take? Should I just do two science one’s or should I try some in the humanities arena?

I would say try to make the third test a test you KNOW you will pass with a high score. I say look at some practice tests on the collegeboard website or pick up an SAT II workbook at your local library. Thats where I got mine last year. Also, if you take it in June I say you have enough time to study for the History exam.

Yeah but I have to take the SAT 1 in October… So that means that I have to take all 3 subject tests this june if I want to apply early anywhere. Right?

Probably. June looks like your best bet. My friend retook the SAT 1 in June and did subjects in October. He said it was easier that way because he continued to study after taking the SAT the first time so everything was still fresh in his mind (the format of the tests, how to pace during the writing, how to relax). He said it was easier that way because once he finished the SAT 1 he had all summer to study for the subject tests (he did have a tutor that helped him though). If you have a college counselor or even a teacher you should talk to them. After all, they went through this at some point too and they see students scrambling to take this test every year and they might be able to give some insight.
