Option 2…

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking.

Well, if you stay, you would be able to take more AP’s.

It looks like Option II is NCSSM (North Carolina School of Science and Math)? If so, you’ll have a higher chunk of people applying to top schools alongside you, but Option II is much more compelling. It’s a powerful schedule for someone interested in science and math. If that option is NCSSM, colleges will be far more impressed by your rigorous class schedule there than AP’s and CC classes at home.

Obviously, it’s also important to consider if leaving is going to impact your study abilities, but I think most people make pretty happy adjustments after first semester. I vote Option II–go for it!

Yes, NCSSM.

I wouldn’t actually plan to do option I completely (8 classes at one time is a little much). But I wanted to see what the strongest schedule at my current location would be like compared to NCSSM… assuming they accept me.

As a current student at NCSSM, your schedule looks pretty rigorous. I assume that you are able to exempt out of the foreign language req. You also have to go through an application process with Rphys. It seems doable assuming the classes are not scheduled in the same block. You should have this prob with courses like Ap chem but many of the specialized courses don’t have as much interest/teachers to make scheduling them every block possible. Also lack of interest/teachers/scheduling time also causes some courses to be cancelled. I think you will only have to worry about that for the higher up physics courses. You also have to take into account SL101 and the PA course if you don’t do a sport. If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them for you.

*Don’t let this get you down, we have an amazing registrar that may make this happen.

Option 2 without a doubt.

I plan to exempt F language and Physics. Then use the physics exemption to start with AP Physics C. Of course, if I find I don’t like physics after taking AP Physics B next year… I’m not sure what I’ll do.

PA courses don’t count toward the course limit as far as I know-- I’m hoping to do a sport but I’m not sure if I’m good enough.

I chose the courses based on the sign up sheet for the 2008-2009 school year-- so I am assuming classes won’t be moved around too much.

Hello, this is my first post, so here goes.

I am going to be a sophomore next year and am going to apply to NCSSM. I go to a school with about 1200 students, and six got in. None of these students were extremely smart; only one took an AP class (Calculus AB), and I don’t think they made an A in it. I am currently ranked second, and here is my class list for next year:

Pre Calculus H
English 2 H
Biology H
Chemistry H
Anatomy H (I will be the only sophomore taking this)
Spanish 1 S
Civics H
World View H (A class where you go to different countries; I’m going to Ireland, Whales, England, and France.)
AP Art History via NCVPS(I’m the only sophomore taking an AP as well)

Im a Lt. Governor for Key Club, in TSA (but I think I’m quitting), almost an Eagle Scout, did Film Club (quitting), run Cross Country, Swimming (quitting), and Track (possibly quitting)

There is only one other student from my school that is applying that I know of, and I am pretty sure we will both get in. I have a couple questions to those who are at NCSSM or have graduated from there. Does being in an unranked school affect your chances of getting into a good college such as Brown, Boston, Cal Berkeley, etc. (if you were going to be valedictorian, that is)? Are the art electives good at NCSSM (especially oil painting and photography)? Is it more difficult to get into UNC-CH at NCSSM (I’ve heard this from a lot of people)? Are the counselors and registrar good?

Any information you can give would be helpful! As to the sports question, you are going to a 1A school. I do not think it is hard to get involved in sports at a 1A school. If you don’t have a lot of athletic ability, do a sport like cross country or intramurals. You SHOULD NOT do a sport just to look good on a college application though. It will not look any better if you did a sport than if you didn’t unless you are extremely talented. Do it because you want to, not to get into an Ivy.

AP Art History, good luck with Ms. Pylypiw. She’s not a bad person but if you don’t love reading a bunch of boring material you might not get along. I believe I might have been the only Freshman in the history of my county to take an AP.

I sent you a PM about applying. Many who go to NCSSM fail to get into top colleges because they don’t stand out at NCSSM. I’ll send you a message with more information about me. I hear the art electives are very good, but I’m not a student.

I believe what you’re referring is recently a lot of NCSSM students were rejected at UNC-CH because a lot of students didn’t try at NCSSM and just assumed they’d be accepted.

The website makes it seem like their counselors are excellent and so is their registrar.

Neither. All that math stuff looks gross. Please allow me to go vomit and praise the lord that I am not you.

Just my duo pennies.
