Which School Best for Pre-Med?

Which school is best for pre med, CAS or CALS. I'm going to apply to one of them as my second choice, but which one should be my first choice?

It’s the same biology department, but each college has its own distribution requirements. What college you choose first depends really on whatever supplemental courses/majors you want to take on.

it depends what ur major will be. Right now CALs’s premed advisors are lame. Humec has some great ones (Paula and Verdeen)… BTW…major in what will get you a high GPA

Love,

A Cornell pre-med senior :)

CALS is best because AEM major is in CALS

anbu is totally wrong, sorry ithachi.

i don’t know if he/she was making a joke, but aem has absolutely nothing to do with premed.

short answer: if you’re a ny state resident, apply to cals. the price cut on tuition is well worth it.

i graduated from cornell 2 years ago, and went to cals because i lived in ny. you’ll find that when you get on campus, an A&S or a Cals or a hotelie or whatever is basically the same- a cornell student. also, your major or your school have very little bearing on your medical school application success; most of the required pre-med courses are inundated with students from all of the cornell schools. your chem 207/208 or bio or physics or orgo and everything else will have students from each school. if you’re goal is to become a doctor focus on your grades and your mcats and get some (less important) clinical experience.

fyi, i was asking the same question 6 years ago, and am now in the 2nd half of med school in a top 20 medical school.

That’s because you are smart since you got into a top 20 school so it doesn’t matter to you. We don’t know that about the OP. I said CALS because the average GPA for AEM is very high, which is important for med school process. Also if fail to get into med school, it also leaves a great backup, temporary or permanent.

But if OP wants to be Bio major, then it makes no difference.

I’m probably somewhat biased but Human Ecology definitely seems like it would be the best choice. CALS is a lot bigger, but Human Ecology has more personal attention and more suitable majors in my opinion.
