This is my first post on here so I’m not exactly sure how this works. However,
I’m an incoming high school senior and I plan to apply to Syracuse in the fall. I want to study to become a therapist. I’ve been told that majoring in social work would give me an edge in finding a job, however I’m also aware plenty of people major in psychology in order to become a therapist. Syracuse is a target/reach for me (I couldn’t find statistics for each individual college so I’m basing that just on their overall stats). Would it be harder to get into their college of sport and human dynamics (which is home to the social work major) than to just go for psychology and get into their college of arts and sciences? I know Newhouse is really competitive but I haven’t heard much else about their specialized colleges. Also-would it be possible/difficult to apply to the college of arts and sciences and then transfer to the college of sport and human dynamics?
If you haven’t gotten a good answer yet somewhere, I would suggest you call the colleges directly. Each has admissions people who will love to talk to you in great detail.
When you apply to Syracuse you can list up to three choices of schools/majors to apply directly to. For instance, you can put Falk as #1 and Arts & Sciences as #2, or whatever your preference is. I don’t believe there is much crossover between Falk and CAS classes though so I would be sure to apply to the program you see as most fit. This link explains the internal transfer standards for each college: http://coursecatalog.syr.edu/content.php?catoid=13&navoid=1748#table-g-iut. It seems that CAS transfer is pretty straightforward whereas Falk is more case-by-case. I would take that into consideration when you rank the schools/programs within SU that you are applying to.
