Which school for Biomed engineeing

I am wondering which school is better in regards to the campus, social life, academics. I want to know which college is better ooverall and specifically for biomedical engineering. I am majoring in biomedical engineering with pre-med to hopefully go to Med school. Any input would be appreciated.

Boston University
University of Miami
Tufts University
University of Pittsburgh
University of Connecticut
SUNY Stony Brook
FAU Harriet Wilkes Honors College

BU and Pitt rank #10 and #14 respectively in the NRC rankings for biomed engineering; Miami is #30. Pitt probably offers the most opportunities for undergrad research given the proximity and size of its medical center and the higher ranking of its med school.

If you’re going to go to med school then top rankings for biomedE won’t matter in the least. You won’t get any brownie points from the Adcoms for choosing a school with a highly ranked biomedE. Heck, you won’t get any brownie points at all for majoring in biomedE.

As the mother of a child who is going thru the med school app process right now, I can tell you that you really just need to go to a school where you’re certain that you’ll get a good education and a high GPA. A high GPA and a good MCAT (along with good LORs and ECs) can get you into med school if you apply to a thoughtful list of SOMs.

Oh, and don’t take on much debt as an undergrad, because med school is very expensive. Private and OOS SOMs can easily have COAs of $70k-80k+ per year. Yikes!!

Discuss with your parents how much they’ll pay each year. Use the NPCs on various schools’ websites to get an idea of your “family contribution.”

Zapfino, are the NRC ratings applicable for undergrad programs as well?

I agree with Mom2. You need to consider where you can obtain the highest GPA, as well as where you can assume the least amount of debt.

You need to choose the cheapest one not the good one for undergrad bio…BUT all of them are good so
