Ugh … commute … in college … nooooooooo

yes

Join the Bing accepted students portal too.
Email Admissions and ask to talk with current CS majors “to help you decide where to enroll”. Ask them to send you what’s planned on campus Friday-Sunday this week (so, a totally random week). There should be a film, clubs (D&D, premeds, whatever), perhaps a concert or a conference/lecture, an outdoors trip/hike, some DIY/crafts activity, different intramural sports, plus open hours at the gym. See if you can find one or two things of interest for Friday and Saturday. Keep in mind you’d have to study some, perhaps go to your job, and of course would organize whatever you and your friends would want to do on the spurr of the moment.

Did you get into Honors at Bing? (I don’t think you’ve mentioned it).

Lots of college students commute to a nearby lower cost college because that is how they can afford to go to college.

Not sure there is one? Fordham emailed me about it so I went ahead and joined it.

Thanks! I’ll do that.

If you’re talking about their FRI (first-year research immersion) program then yes I did.

Fordham has two campuses. Some majors can be done at both. Others have to pick. Not sure about CS. Rose Hill is a pretty campus in the Bronx.

Fordham is a Catholic school but Jesuit. The liberal Catholics. Plus you’re in NYC. Doesn’t get much more diverse.

If you could pair CS with something from Gabelli business that would be something to consider. Gabelli was one of S20’s targets. Didn’t quite get enough merit.

True … it was a personal sentiment as well as directed @ OP, who has a Binghamton option (cheaper and “better” for his intended major)

Well, funnily enough I was in Bing this past weekend and it was great! It was a nice warm day of about 45 and everyone was out and about. Students everywhere, families walking their dogs, lots of people dining outdoors. Binghamton is not a lovely town, and some parts of it are down at heel for sure, but I can honestly say it’s grown on me a lot since I first started visiting, and my son and his friends are really enjoying it.

There are a lot of places to eat and all the major stores are in the area. Ithaca and the Finger Lakes are not far, skiing is close too. My son knows people who fish in the Susquehanna and there’s plenty of local hiking, though the university nature preserve is perhaps the nicest place to visit very close by. The glass museum in Corning is world class. So there’s certainly enough to keep any visitors busy for a weekend and students aren’t bored. My son rarely comes home except for long breaks.

AFAIK, students are doing well upon graduating. There are lots of connections to jobs all over NY state and it is getting more recognition outside of NY.

ETA: Academics are rigorous. My son had a rude awakening his first year. I do think it can be hard for lower classmen to get classes sometimes, though my son has always ended up with a good schedule during the add/drop period. @nr548grad21

Thank you so much for your input! Everyone’s giving Bing positive reviews I think I’ll have to reconsider
