The schools I've gotten into:
UC Meced
Cal Poly Pomona
University of San Francisco
San Diego State
Waitlisted to UCR and UCSC
And some out of states like Boulder and Oregon
Which school should I go to for premed? I don't want to count on UCR or UCSC or get my hopes up for them.
I don't know if I want to leave California either.
My GPA unweighted is a 3.6 and my SAT is 1860.

If you’re instate, Merced.

Is Merced a good school? I haven’t visited it yet.

How successful you are in applying to med school depends on what you do in college and not some magic the college has with regards to preparing students for med school. All the colleges you list can prepare students for med school. And at all those colleges there are going to be lots of students that start out with the idea “I want to be a doctor” and yet end up doing something else. The difference is what you do, not what the school does.

There is an excellent online handbook at Amherst I recommend you read to get an understanding of the process and what really matters
I also always ask kids that say they want to be doctors, why an M.D? Not that I know it is wrong for you, it may be the right fit, but have you actually looked into the medical field and considered the alternatives? From the day you start college it will be 11-15 years before you are a practicing doctor, depending on what field you go into. Doctors are not the only ones in the health field that help people. Physical therapists, radiology techs, nurses, speech pathologists, to name but just a few. Before you go heavily into debt and commit so many years I suggest you explore the alternatives.

Thank you very much that was very helpful.
I know that I want to help people, and I enjoy biology. I’m actually not a 100% sure whether or not I want to be a doctor. I’ve done plenty of volunteering at a hospital. I also babysit and tutor a child who is autistic. Not only that I’ve been working with the elderly who suffer from Alzheimer’s. I enjoy doing all of this, but I am not sure exactly what profession I want to get into.
I’m thinking med, and I want to know out of those schools that I listed would have the best program in medicine or health.

what are the costs to you, including loans, of each school you are serious about?

Of course Merced is a good school. It’s a UC.

the reason that I think you should go to M is because you’re not a strong student and M is small enough to provide a private-like school experience.

I live in the Bay Area and I have family near merced.
So I’m considering there.
I don’t want to pay the expenses for the university of San Francisco.
But I don’t know much about SDSU or CPP and if they our worth considering.
And if I do get into UCSC or UCR, would either one he better than UCM?

UCR now has a med school, but if you’re serious about being a premed student, then M would give you more personal attention.

I’ll be honest with you…your stats indicate a weak foundation as a premed. The other UCs would probably eat you alive. CPP is going to have strong STeMS in those prereqs. Your best chance will be at m.

I’ve actually have always been a straight A student.
But junior year I was very sick and I wasn’t capable to go to school. When I got back to school that year I did very poorly because of my illness. I took 5 AP classes. Senior year I decided to make up all the classes I did bad in.
Now I am healthy and a straight A student once again.
So my GPA went up as a whole.
And I sent appeal to some UCs with my new transcript. That GPA is very high.
I am a capable student. And when I said I got a 3.6 that was my GPA before I fixed everything.
And on the English and History SAT subject test I scored way above 700 on each (they are out of 800).
My ACT is also very high too.

And I actually just found I got into my dream school for pre dentistry.
And I’m really excited! I don’t have to worry anymore.
But thank you for replying to this thread anyways!

am I the only one feeling tooled? X(

@jkeil911
What do you mean?

I was actually freaking out on which school I should go to. So I came here to ask. And a few hours later I checked my email, and got the most exciting news.

So where did you get accepted? and what is your ACT score?

@mom2collegekids
My ACT was a 32.
And University of the Pacific for Pre-Dentistry.

I got a scholarship, so the costs won’t be too high.

no, Bananapbp, I was referring to your telling us, who are trying to help you with your problem, that you got into your dream school but not telling us which of the schools it was! Turns out it was none of them.

Do you still need help deciding?

Ohhhh!!! Sorry!
And I don’t need help deciding anymore!
But thank you all for helping!
