Oh, nevermind about the demographics, you were responding to Momofthreeboys.

Honestly. I know absolutely nothing about Northeastern whatsoever and have never formed an opinion about it. I’ve certainly heard of Clemson, but I don’t have a good impression of it. I don’t know which is better out of those, though.

Clemson, for sure. Between sports and its huge student body, it has more national reach.

in new york, nobody who doesn’t watch ESPN and follow college athletics knows of Clemson but MANY people know of and apply to Northeastern. It could be regional but I don’t think a firm in California would see Clemson over Northeastern. They would probably place Northeastern above because of the co-op program (students also have stronger stats going in). Northeastern used to be not a great school at all and Clemson WAS undoubtedly superior but in the most recent years, NEU keeps improving and improving. Both are good schools, though. I would DEFINATELY not say Clemson for sure though (don’t know why people keep saying that with no support or anything to back it up). I put NEU slightly above.

"Clemson, for sure. Between sports and its huge student body, it has more national reach. "

Actually, Clemson is kind of small for a major public university.

The OP never asked which was better. The OP asked about recognition. No one is “dissing” Northeastern. To me that is the hardest thing for kids to ‘get.’ Outside of the HS and college bubble or the academic world very few care about the stats. Companies care if the graduates can perform the tasks of the entry level jobs and tend to fish/recruit where they’ve had “luck” before with employees and people on the street only know of colleges they hear about primarily in the mass media. The OP is asking about the basic concept of brand and what attributes “people” put on that product or name. Brand awareness or preference it is simply a personal belief based on whatever attributes they perceive at that moment of the question. People also tend to support their particular choice of brand and attribute positive qualities to their choice so of course a student in the area or attending a particular college is going to ascribe favorable attributes to their choice. It’s a valid question if you want to think about colleges on a national or global basis. If not, then it doesn’t really matter…

From where I live in the mid - Atlantic states, it’s Northeastern by a mile.

I have never heard anyone talk about Clemson (except the sports guys), while several kids have gone from our local high school to Northeastern recently.

By the way, Northeastern is really hot, with 34,000 applicants for the Fall of 2009 (per the Common Data Set).
