Which school has a better Computer Science Program?

University of Washington
or
University of Michigan ?

I'm planning on majoring in Computer Science, and want to eventually get into Management consulting, hopefully a Top 3 consulting firm. Weighing everything else equally, which degree in CS is more valuable, from UW or from UM?

I know UW has a Top 10 CSE program in the nation, not sure about UM...But they sound more prestigious. But then again, UW is right next to Microsoft so maybe thats why its good at CS...

So Washington or Michigan (CS only)

Washington’s program is more well known for CS, but Michigan is a better overall school and attracts more consulting firms.

So which one would you choose if you were majoring in CS and wanted to get into a Top Management consulting firm? Both aren’t target schools, but you’re probably right Michigan is more attractive. But UW has a better CS program.

Which CS degree would an employer value more? Same GPA, same everything else.

I mean, my mind says, ok lets see, CS is harder in UW so the UW degree is more valuable?

they are both fine I think.
U mich. is a little better in total academic reputation but you’ll get the exact same quality education either way.

Yeah but if you are only in it for the money, I can’t imagine that you’ll benefit by learning more about CS. (I don’t understand why students put themselves through a degree in engineering/CS when they know that they’ll never use anything they learn in class)

If G.P. Burdell is right about UMich attracting more consulting firms, then go to UMich.

Also I’d like to know how much the difference would be?

Udub.
DS, hired as a supporting engineer in CS dept.

Disclaimer, obvious bias.

I would also consider the budget situations in both states and the level of cuts likely to hit the two schools. Cuts can reduce course offerings making it harder to graduate on time.

So I’m assuming it’s pretty close? The battle between little better all-around versus little better in that major is a wash?

Or does anyone think one has the clear or even slight edge

Visit both, see which one you like more, and pick that one.

^^^^

So it should come down to something like that right? There is no definitive answer right?

There are generally no clear cut answers to the college question unless it’s something like MIT vs. University of Terrible.
