I am curious among the following schools, which one(s) have you decided not to apply after the interview/visit, and why. I realize it could generate some "negative feedback" about the schools, but I believe mostly the discussion would focus on "fit", and the negative comments would be more likely on one individual or one case instead of the entire school.

Exeter
SPS
Groton
Deerfield
Hotchkiss
Choate
Lawrenceville

I decided not to apply to Milton after the visit. It didn’t feel like a good “fit” for me. The kids didn’t seem like they were to aware of what was going around them and seemed not like the kind I would like. Also, I didn’t like the fact that it is 50% boarding and day b/c I could easily believe that this would create tension.

We didn’t visit Milton, but Concord Academy which is another 50/50ish school actually prevents boarders from going back to their dorms during the day. My interpretation is that that opportunity was thought “unfair” to the day students. That would certainly cause me some tension as a boarder.

We also did not apply to Milton for the same reasons as ifax.

Now you see why I didn’t include Milton in “my list”. I knew the day student population would be an “easy” back out reason for some.
But thanks for the input. Keep it coming!

DAndrew-I had many questions and concerns about the boarding/day population at Loomis. I was worried that the day school parents would have so much more influence than the boarding’s parents. In many cases the relationship can be very difficult. Now I know of some parents of borders that are great, but Deerfield has a small day student population compared to a place like Loomis.

Personally, I loved SPS for the sake of all boarders.

for whatever it
s worth, My mom hates driving over the GWB to any Mid atlantic schools so I had to stick to NE area BS. I did visit one NJ school but I don
t think I`m applying.
