bentley, indiana, kelly school of business, wisconsin-madison or michigan-ross school for business? how does bentley rank on us news and world reports? is it a highly regarded business school?has anyone visited? if so can describe it and tell me what you liked/disliked about it? Thank you!

Bentley ranks 47th, Indiana ranks 11th, Wisconsin-Madison ranks 12th and Michigan ties for 3rd.

However, there is more to it than that. Both Indiana and Michigan (and I believe Wisconsin as well) require that you be admitted first to the school, and then after a year or two you can be admitted to the business school. There are exceptions, of course. I think Indiana admits 100 directly, and I think Michigan admits 90 or so, but you have to check your admission letter closely. You may think that because you were admitted to the school, you are admitted to your major--but this is not the case. Obviously, this can be a big deal if you go to the school, and then are unable to get the grades to get into the business schools at these places (which are very competitive, I might add). Then you may feel like you went there for no reason. P.S. This also applies to schools like Berkeley and University of Illinois, I believe.

At Bentley, however, this doesn't apply. Almost everyone attending Bentley is doing so to major in business. Quite a bit of a difference in my view--and a good reason for going to Bentley if there is any doubt about the ability to get into the business program at the other schools.

P.S. My son has been admitted to Indiana--but not to the business program--well, not yet anyway. So we are flying to Bentley next week (and to the Univ of Pittsburgh, where he was admitted to the business program), and will be considering them as well as Indiana.

You know, I should make a comment here.

It isn't so much that my son doesn't think he can get into the business program at Indiana--it's just that he doesn't want that concern hanging over him for the next year or two. When we discussed this originally, he decided for this reason not to apply to any schools that had this policy. So for this reason, he did not apply to UC Berkeley, Michigan, and Univ of Washington. He thought for sure that he would be one of the 100 direct admits to Indiana, and was amazed when this was not the case. Fortunately, he applied to Bentley and Pitt in addition, so he now has a choice whether to accept this situation at Indiana or go to one of these other fine schools.

You know sometimes I think this entire application process is crazy. Everyone knows what a big transition college is from HS. Now add to that the possibility that you may not be able to get into your major of choice! Do these motivated kids need any more pressure?
My youngest son was accepted to Bently on ED and his best friend applied RD and was rejected. I am so relieved that he knows where he going, is excited and I don't have to deal with this college acceptance, rejection, deferred and waitlisted business again--ever.
Good luck everyone.

cal......that is basically my situation also alhtough IU has told me that if I graudate with a certain GPA, i will get direct admit to kelly, i am literally on the cusp, but now am very confused. I love the location of Bentley, I have spent quite a bit of time in Boston, I am going to visit the school next week and feel this will really firm things up for me. Alhtough I know Michigan is up there, the schools not for me, plus I visited it and just wasn't too impressed, especially with the dorms. Now I am being told about all this money Bentley is infusing into their school, and apparently its going to be awesome, plus that great location. However does saying you graduated from Bentley have the same clout as the others? I know in this area, Bentley is pretty highly regarded, I just don't know much about it. Joes mom, what other choices did your son have? What made him decide on Bentley?

Yes, Bentley has been infusing a lot of money into their campus. They have recently completed a $16 million renovation of their library and 3 years ago completed a $20 million academic center. The gym and fitness center is undergoing a $10 million renovation at the moment.

All the labs are high-tech and Bentley is expected to make a dramatic move up the rankings. This year's incoming class had an average SAT of 1240 and acceptance percentage was at or below 40%.

Bentley is on its way to surpassing Babson as the best business-only school.

The school is not very big (3,800 undergrads) but as the reputation grows it will become much harder to get into.

The schools appeals to many students more than Babson due to the size of the student body and location.

Definitely take a look as I would expect the school to make a large move up the rankings in the coming years.

My son is in the same situation..accepted at Bentley and IU, but not direct admit. He will be at the Bentley open house and the IU Freshman Forum. Who did you talk to Kelly about direct admit based upon GPA?

My son went to the Indiana Freshman Forum with his mom and discussed this with representatives from the Kelley business school. I think he was 10 points off of the combined SAT score he needed and .03 off the GPA he needed to get direct admit status--I think you need a 3.5 GPA and 1270 SAT (CR/M). He was told he could petition since he was so close--which he has already done. (We were told the reply would come by the end of this week.)

He and I will be flying to Bentley this weekend. We're scheduled to fly out Saturday, but will be at the airport on Friday to see if we can get on a standby overnight flight--so as to make the Open House (we booked this trip before the Open House was announced). So, if we're successful, we'll see you there!

Cal, hopefully you were as impressed with the Open House as I was on Saturday. The only thing that had been lacking on campus was the athletic center, and after its renovations it is now top-notch. Even though the weather wasn't very good, don't let it fool you, I have visited on nice days and the campus is amazing. As far as I'm concerned, Bentley is the top option for business on the East coast, and easily rivals Michigan and IU, especially since there is no secondary admissions process to the business program.

Well, I was impressed by the facilities, and by the placement office and all the work they do. I think their placment rate this year was something like 99.7%. Also, the new upgrades to the library are amazing.

I'm not entirely sold on the quality of the Finance program they have, however, and I do have an issue with the cost of everything. Some of the people there are just outstanding to deal with, however. David, who runs their residential housing office, is phenomenal--and we even enjoyed talking to their priest and academic counselors.

My son will be making his decision shortly. It's his call, so we'll see what he decides.

On top of what everyone has said, Bentley is a pure business school. So only go if you're 100% sure that you'll do business.

we got back two days ago from bentley and its quite nice, many of the facilities including the studetn centers, library and newer buildings and classrooms were really impressive, the people seemed nice but its smallness shined through as we were walking the campus, it IS small compared to a big state school and that exclusivity feeling and quaintness is exactly what some are after, i am just a little concerned about diversity finding enough people that are into the same things you are, do you consider it diverse? the one plus is i have cousins at bc and harvard and we would all be close so location is prime and a big plus. the dorms were pretty nice, good to have ac. am considering it for sure............wish it was higher ranked, does anyone see that changing for next year?

Yes, Bentley will rise in the rankings. If you saw the library and new fitness center I'm sure you would be impressed. Changes to buildings such as above do help in the rankings and Bentley also has been toughening up their admissions process recently. The acceptance percentage sits at around 40% and it is gaining in recognition.

It's accounting program is ranked 20th in the nation and Bentley is in the process of finding a new president within the coming year.

There are plans to build a new ice hockey rink and spiritual center on campus as well as renovate the dorms.

Basically Bentley's goal right now is to take aim at Babson and become the top business specialty school. I have a feeling that with this plan that can very well happen.

Hello..
thanks for all the info on Bentley.I would be joining the MBA program at Bentley this fall. I am an international student and knew little about Bentley as I wasnt able to visit it.
Anyone else who would be joining the program this fall??
