which school is better USD or UCSD or SDSU

I know that in terms of prestige UCSD is better than SDSU, but i dont know how USD stacks up to either one.

The only thing i like about USD is that they are small. under 10k students with class sizes about 15-20 people.

Anyone have any ideas/

if u're studying science, UCSD is awesome, one of the top schools at Bioengineering, have a good med school. Alot of research, etc.

SDSU is known as party school.

UCSD, USD, SDSU, in that order.

There's a pretty huge gap between each of those schools. Not knowing your major, if you were to get into all three of those schools I would highly recommend UCSD above the others. Much better school. USC, in my opinion is not even close to being worth the amount of money that tuition is. SDSU is a fourth tier school. In my experience (overgeneralization ahead) the only people who go to SDSU out-of-state are people who had horrible grades in high school and did next to nothing, and don't really care about education quality, just want to be somewhere in San Diego and party. To be honest, however, I don't know very much about SDSU so I can't really advise you on it. Good luck.

i live in san diego, so technically i have guranteed admission to either UCSD and SDSU.

SDSU i really dont care for much b/c of the reasons mentioned, it is a party school and so on. But my major is Economics & Math (double/ not joint) .. or i would go for business and finance BUT UCSD doesnt offer that.
THe choices i have at UCSD are limited to ECON and MATH, or ECON managment sciences which i am uncertain what the heck that is really.

I guess mentally because i know i can go to UCSD i want to apply somewhere else too, sort of get into the best that i can. I know UCSD is good but when you know you can go there, its not the same, just as with any school. If someone said i had guranteed admission to Harvard, i would probably try for yale or princeton.

USD i dont know much about, but they do have a Business school, and a Law school, BUT their tution is HUGE.

I would love to choose another UC (LA or B) but reality is that i DO NOT want to live in a dorm, and i can not afford to live elsewhere, and the simple cost of being away from home is not something my family can afford to pay either.

Size is a huge thing for me, i kind of enjoy the community college size, and USD is very small, UCSD is huge at 20k+ students.

SO i guess since i have to stay in san diego, what is the best school here? are there any that i didnt mention?

The best school is San Diego is undoubtedly UCSD. If they have nothing to ofeer you in terms of majors, either discover a different major, or find another school. I don't believe that there are any schools that are actually IN San Diego beside those three. If you must decide amongst those, go with the UC. You are lucky if you are considered a shoe-in. It's a school desired and unreachable to thousands around the country. Take advantage.

your right, i know it takes a very small percentage of applicants in an overall view of things.

Malishka31...what is that program called (the one that guarantees CC a spot at one of the UCs)? I would chose the UC, hands down. It seems like a no brainer. The cost, relative to State, is more but I think that it is definately worth it. USD, one word, overpriced. Especially for the education that you get. UCSD is the premier school in San Diego and is in a prime location, La Jolla. You said you wanted to double major in econ and math...both of which are offered at UCSD.

Its the TAG program. Transfer Admission Gurantee with UCSD, i think there are a few other UCs that have something similar, like UCI, UCD, UCSD, and UCSB. (not 100% sure that those are all the UCs)

I am double majoring in that b/c they dont offer anything related to business and finance. ........... at the same time, i know that i will persue my masters so i guess it doesnt really matter b/c UCSD is going to offer a better undergrad education either way.

If you're majoring in business and would rather not attend one of the better business schools in California, SDSU, based on the fact that SDSU has a party rep, I find that rather interesting.

I'm going to be a finance major at SDSU. The business community of SD seems to be really well connected to the school. Mainly because SDSU was ranked in the top 12 for entreprenuers in the nation. CEO of Costco, Rubio's, some of the top fund managers in San Diego etc. attended SDSU. You can have the pleasure of meeting many of them through the Finance and Investment Society at SDSU. You really should do more research in the specific thing you want to study. If you want to go into the finance field, don't attend UCSD (marine biology yes, business no).

A degree from SDSU is probably far more valuable in the local community than elsewhere; the same is true for USD. A degree from UCSD will probably hold more clout all over--especially in certain majors.

i am not really intrested in san diego's business and finance market thats also partly why i wanted UCSD more than SDSU, on top of ideally going to berkeley for grad school i want a job that has more of an international appeal... possibily in another country or with large ties to other countries or the government.

So is UCSD my best bet then?

SDSU has the 7th best International Business program in the nation (according to US NEWS) and is well connected to schools such as Oxford. Many of my friends at SDSU just finished studying at Oxford for the summer session.

blah!!!!!!!!!!

now i am all confused!
