Which School Should I Choose for Computer Science?

Hello CC,

I'm a senior in high school, and I'm having a hard time choosing which college to go for my desired major, Computer Science. The schools I've got into so far are:

UIUC
UCLA
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Georgia Tech
Northeastern University
Rice University

I looked up the undergraduate rankings for the Computer Science major and saw that Georgia Tech, UIUC, and UCLA are among the best 10 schools for the undergrad CS. However, as of now the school I'm most interested in is Rice, which doesn't have a high reputation for CS. I'm not sure if I should choose Rice over "the best CS schools".

I must take into account that the undergrad rankings don't make a heck of a lot of difference, but I'm not sure if choosing a school not known for CS will benefit me after all. Rice has a higher overall ranking than any other school listed above and this makes me even more reluctant.

Any advice?

I highly doubt that you will go jobless with a CS degree from Rice.

Anecdotally, I know someone who went to Rice as an undergrad, had a summer internship at Amazon, and is now in the PhD program at the University of Washington (a top 10 CS grad school).

It doesn’t seem to me that going to Rice would inhibit your prospects in any way.
