Which school should I choose for RETP to Tech?

I’m a high school senior and was to earn a biomedical engineering degree from Tech. I just don’t know which school is best to go to the first two years.

Of their options, right now I’m looking at GPC, Georgia Southern, and Columbus State. I’m also recently heard that Dalton is good?

Unfortunately Georgia State and SPSU (now under Kennesaw) aren’t options. I’ve already gotten accepted to both Southern and Columbus though.

My issue is that I want to be some place that can prepare me for the rigor of Tech classes while also making it capable for me to get a good GPA, since that’s basically all they look at.

I know if I go to GPC it’s cheaper, but does it really prepare you? Also, do you still get some normal college experiences?

I’m not a party person and I’m talking to kids going to Southern now and next year and they all seem to want to party and that’s definitely not my scene. But Southern has one of the best engineering programs in the state.

What do you think?

I know a lot of people do transfer from Southern to Tech, my current RA included. Probably about half the transfer students I know come from Southern and I would say they’re not all partiers. I don’t know most of them super well, but I don’t think any of the ones I know are partiers. I would imagine any school has a party scene which you can avoid - I’d be surprised if you were the only non-partier there. Southern is a gorgeous campus and close to Savannah and the ocean, so those are perks. Of all the schools you named, I believe (although I am no expert on USG) that Southern would give you the most typical college experience, and I think transferring with a high GPA from there is pretty common. As for GPC, I have no idea whether it prepares you, but I definitely think of it as a commuter school where you wouldn’t get much of a college experience.

Good luck!

I decided I’m going to Southern now. I even have two out of three of my roommates picked out!

Congratulations!
